Tradewind Recruitment is working closely with several specialist schools in Hillingdon catering for children and young people with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD). We are currently recruiting experienced and passionate Special Needs Teachers for full-time positions starting September 2025.
These roles are ideal for teachers with a background in complex needs settings who are committed to providing meaningful, inclusive, and highly personalised learning experiences.
About the Schools:
The schools support pupils aged 4-19 with a range of complex needs, including:
1. Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD)
2. Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)
3. Complex medical needs and physical disabilities
4. Autism with significant cognitive delay
5. Non-verbal communication and sensory processing differences
Class sizes are small and supported by multiple Teaching Assistants and, where needed, specialist staff such as nurses, physiotherapists, and speech and language therapists. The curriculum is highly adapted and often focuses on communication, independence, sensory integration, and life skills.
The Role:
As an SLD/PMLD Teacher, you will:
6. Deliver personalised, engaging and multi-sensory lessons to meet individual EHCP outcomes
7. Support pupils with intimate care needs, feeding routines, and use of mobility aids or specialist equipment (training provided)
8. Work collaboratively with classroom support staff and therapy teams
9. Use a range of communication strategies such as PECS, Makaton, and AAC
10. Foster a safe, nurturing and consistent classroom environment
11. Track progress against highly individualised learning goals and contribute to Annual Reviews
Essential Requirements:
12. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS or QTLS)
13. Previous experience teaching in an SLD or PMLD setting
14. Knowledge of specialist teaching approaches, including sensory learning and communication systems
15. A calm, empathetic and resilient approach
16. Ability to adapt to the physical and emotional needs of pupils with complex needs
17. Strong commitment to inclusive education and safeguarding
