Are you seeking a fulfilling Nursery Nurse role where you can make a positive difference to families and the team?

We are looking for a highly motivated Nursery Nurse to form part of a pathway of expert care which should be available to women, their infants and families, who are seen by the service. This role is part-time only working 18 hours per week.

You will be part of the Buckinghamshire Perinatal Mental Health Team, providing a service to women experiencing moderate to severe perinatal mental health difficulties and their families.

The core purpose of the team in which the you will work, is to deliver high quality, tailored interventions in perinatal mental health and attachment-based approaches to families and infants in Buckinghamshire.

You will assist the multidisciplinary team in meeting the needs of children and their families by undertaking delegated duties that support and enable family centred care.

To work as an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team ensuring that there is appropriate communication with other professionals (e.g Maternity Services and Health Visiting Teams) involved in the care of the child and families. The Nursery Nurse role involves visiting families in their own homes and facilitating groups in local community alongside our support workers or peer support worker.


Main duties of the job

Clinical Activities: Provide perinatal support antenatally and postnatally in the community, always promoting and modelling a high standard of care with attachment-based guidance in mind.
Antenatal preparation: Provide practical and emotional support to help families bond and prepare the transition to parenthood. Enhancing the attachment and bonding process through pregnancy using current research and evidence-based practice.

Enhancing the attachment and bonding process:Holding reassurance and Baby Massage programmes.Provide advice and support on practical baby care.

Advice and support on feeding and promoting skin to skin contact: Bathing, dressing, and changing baby safely with positive interaction between parent and baby. How to cope with a crying baby, crying patterns and soothing. Safety awareness and key messages including safe sleep guidance. Help providing a safe, nurturing and stimulating home environment for babies and children.

Excellent communication, organisational and liaison skills are essential to ensure that the links and relationships already developed by the team are maintained to deliver a high quality and responsive perinatal mental health service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post-holder will work as a member of the Buckinghamshire Perinatal Mental Health Team proving a service to women experiencing moderate to severe perinatal mental health issues and their families, as delegated by perinatal clinicians/team lead.

If you are successfully recruited into this post you will have access to regular supervision, internal and external training opportunities.

The successful post-holder will also be expected to participate in the delivery of interventions in various community settings and support women being admitted or discharged from mother and baby units, under the direction of the perinatal mental health clinicians.

The Perinatal Nursery Nurse will be expected to work towards meeting the national perinatal competency framework requirements.
