Legal and Data Protection Specialist
Location: Home based, with adhoc visit to Grimsby/ Boston offices as required (DN31 2LJ)
Salary: £55,000 per annum
Vacancy Type: 12 Month Fixed Term Contract
The company is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Legal and Data Protection Specialist to join their team and provide strategic guidance on legal compliance, data governance, and privacy legislation.
This role requires a thorough understanding of regulatory frameworks and a commitment to ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of sensitive information across the company.

A typical week could include:
1. Review updates and input into key policy changes such as the Data Protection & Digital Information Bill and Social Tenant Access to Information requirements.
2. Meet with the Legal Business Partner and Data Protection Business Partner to support technical advice and larger projects such as development of data maps.
3. Produce training, guidance, and materials such as templates and briefings to ensure colleagues understand and act on changes.
4. Conduct horizon scanning, staying up to date with legislative and regulatory updates and sector developments.
5. Be involved in and raise awareness of legal and regulatory compliance across organisational projects including Awaab’s Law, AI governance, social housing regulation, building safety, and data protection.
6. Help develop the approach to AI governance and ethical use of GenAI tools.
7. Support colleagues in responding to complex data protection and legal queries.
8. Review and update data protection compliance controls.
9. Collaborate with the Risk & Assurance team to assess legal and data protection risks.
10. Support the Legal Business Partner in reviewing legal services framework and value for money approach.
11. Reflect on lessons learned from recent legal or data protection issues and update internal templates and guidance.
12. End-of-week wrap-up and horizon scanning for emerging legal and regulatory risks.
What skills, abilities, knowledge, and experience are required?
1. A qualified solicitor, legal executive, or Data/Information governance specialist.
2. Substantial experience advising organisations on legal compliance and regulatory interpretation, ideally in housing, public, or regulated sectors.
3. Experience acting as or supporting a Data Protection Officer.
4. Proven ability to enable teams to understand and apply complex legal or regulatory requirements.
5. Experience developing or delivering corporate policies, training, and improvement plans.
