Due to recent retirements, the foundation has vacancies for up to three honorary (non-paid) trustees to complement our existing team in both day-to-day management and guiding our long term development.

As part of our board you will support and shape our work and strategic direction, helping us to achieve our goals of offering unique heritage sailing experiences whilst ensuring the long-term preservation of our nationally important vessel.
What are we looking for?
Ideally, we'd welcome hearing from those with relevant experience of at least one of the following Fundraising in the not-for-profit or charity sector Leadership or governance in a charitable organisation, preferably in the heritage sector Sailing as a skipper on a commercial sailing yacht or sail training vessel Experience in traditional shipbuilding techniques or marine engineering and systems Operating at Board level in a small or medium sized business over an extended period or comparable experience in the public sector
What will you be doing?
Trustees will use their skills, knowledge and experience to help the board to set sound policies and reach good decisions. This will involve scrutinising board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues and providing advice and guidance on new initiatives or other issues in which Trustees have recognised expertise. Trustees will also contribute through the management of volunteers and potentially paid employees, undertaking tasks such as Event Management, Maintenance Operations, Sailing Operations and Marketing. Other more general responsibilities include Ensuring that the Foundation operates exclusively in the pursuance of its charitable objectives. Contributing actively in giving clear strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy, defining goals and evaluating performance against agreed targets. Safeguarding employees, contractors, volunteers and guests and securing the good name of the Foundation. Ensuring the efficient operation of the charity and the vessel. Ensuring good financial management of the Foundation Appointment of the Chair, new Trustees and any employees or major contractors. Participating in relevant training sessions provided for the benefit of Trustees or Volunteers.
