Gynaecology Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist

The Cancer Team at The Princess Alexandra Hospital are looking to appoint a Band 7 Macmillan Gynaecology Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) on a 12 month fixed term contract. This is a unique opportunity for any nurse who has extensive experience as a senior band 6 within gynaecology or cancer care who wishes to expand their clinical skills and knowledge to help support and develop an expanding service which is fully patient centred. The nurse will be a highly visible presence across the speciality and wards, working to ensure the highest standards of care, setting and maintaining standards of clinical excellence and continuously improving experiences for patients, families and carers.
For this role you will need to have:
* A current NMC Nursing registration with post qualification, relevant experience.
* Possession of excellent communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills coupled with evidence of continuing professional development.
* In addition, you will be required to demonstrate a flexible approach to work.
Main duties of the job include:
* To provide specialist, high quality, expert nursing care and support for patients and their carers with a gynaecology cancer diagnosis.
* To deliver evidence based individualised patient care according to patients' changing health care needs, through holistic needs assessment (HNA).
* To work autonomously and seek collaborative relationships with others across and within professional boundaries.
* To develop patient pathways and be responsible for developing the nursing service.
* To provide expert knowledge and advice in own specialist area, ensuring maintenance of clinical excellence underpinned by evidence-based practice.
* To work with the Multidisciplinary team (MDT) and Cancer Management Team to ensure that your cancer service complies with the national standards for safety and quality.
* To act as a visible role model and expert practitioner.
* To perform an effective key role within the MDT to deliver cancer waiting times targets and pathways communication.
* To act as a specialist resource for patients and the clinical team by providing comprehensive advice, information, teaching and training both within PAHT and externally.
* Update own clinical and specialist knowledge; contribute in audit processes; undertake, where appropriate, nursing research with published outcomes.
* Promote excellence in clinical practice, and the setting of quality standards within specialty.
* Active involvement in the development of the service locally and nationally.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse
* Recognised teaching or mentorship qualification
* Post registration qualification relevant to specialty
* Evidence of continued professional development
* Masters degree or working towards
* Advanced assessment skills
* Independent Nurse Prescribing course or willingness to undertake
* Advanced communication skills training
* Level 2 psychological skills training
Experience
* Substantial post‑registration experience in gynaecology conditions and/or oncology
* Previous experience in a post involving clinical and managerial responsibilities
* Evidence of teaching and experience of developing teaching materials
* Demonstrate evidence of highly developed clinical practice
* Knowledge of current advances and pathways of care relevant to specialty
* Proven evidence of improving the patient experience
* Experience of multi‑professional working
* Experience of undertaking nurse led clinics
* Previous experience of working as a clinical nurse specialist
* Previous experience of research and audit
