Overview
Senior Windfarm Controller role at ScottishPower, Lowestoft. Salary from £45,973, up to 10% bonus and health cover + shift allowance. The Wind Farm Controller coordinates the safe, efficient transfer of personnel and equipment to offshore wind sites, monitors turbine status via SCADA, and acts as Operational Controller under the main contractor's HV safety rules (HVSR) to manage HV works and ensure safety from the system.
Responsibilities
* HV management of the Wind Farm: perform the role of Control Person under the High Voltage Safety Rules up to 66kV – CP3 level (cross boundary) or equivalent; support outage planning with Senior Authorized Persons and Deputy Site Managers; coordinate HV switching with Whitelee control centre, site SAP and asset integrity teams; conduct HV switching operations.
* Offshore work coordination: manage the transfer of personnel and equipment by vessels to ensure safe, efficient and cost-effective operations; ensure permits are in place; plan work schedules; monitor weather, sea and light conditions to support go/no-go decisions; organise vessel audits and coordinate port manoeuvres; liaise with ABP Lowestoft and site management; ensure adherence to H&S procedures; ensure personnel offshore are qualified and certified; coordinate marine traffic and monitor movements using PTS and VTS.
* Wind Turbine Management: act as Operational Controller under WTSR; monitor WTG SCADA and respond to alarms or issues to maximise generation; liaise with the Asset Integrity team for support.
* Training and development: undergo a training path toward authorisations to manage HV Operations and act as Control Person up to 66kV; shadow HV authorised mentors; complete marine training competency packs and any external training proposed by site management.
* Other duties: support development and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures and tools; regularly report KPIs; assist in short- and long-term maintenance planning; maintain offshore H&S performance and optimise logistics; support Deputy Site Management with daily issues and reporting.
What you’ll bring
* Experience as a control room operator conducting HV switching operations and developing switching schedules.
* Authorisations under High Voltage Safety Rules as either a Control Person or SAP.
* Knowledge of SCADA systems, WTGs, HV equipment and substations; familiarity with auxiliary equipment.
* Experience with safe systems of work (WTSR, HVSR).
* Experience in offshore wind or a similar safety-critical industry (e.g., Oil and Gas).
* Offshore marine or helicopter coordination experience is desirable but training can be provided.
* Experience with VHF radio communications.
* Strong H&S experience and knowledge, ideally in an offshore working environment.
* Excellent communication skills to convey messages to stakeholders at all levels; project planning or equivalent experience; high-level IT knowledge.
