Job overview The role of the Lead Cancer Nurse Specialist in Urology is a great opportunity to develop your clinical and professional practice along with leadership and management experiences. The post holder will be an effective core member of the Urology Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) within Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, acting as an expert practitioner within the Urology team demonstrating highly developed specialist knowledge in the management of patients with urological diseases and their physical and emotional care. Advert - Assesses patient plans and implement care, provides specialist advice; maintains associated records. - Works as a specialist for patients with suspected or diagnosed urological cancers. - Provides specialist education and training to other staff, patients and carers. - Provide support to the Band 6 Urology Oncologist Nurse Specialist/PSA Tracker role and Cancer support worker - Lead and Manage team of CNS ensuring : Appraisals are timely, rosters are completed, HR issues escalated and managed, audits and risk assessments completed and financial awareness and budget reviews completed. - Specialist for a defined clinical area providing line management to other members of the team on lower bands. - Undertakes research activities and leads clinical audits in own specialist area. - Provides psychological support to patients and their families also breaking bad news of a cancer diagnosis or disease progression on a regular basis. This will include undertaking the Holistic Needs Assessments at appropriate stages in the patient’s pathway. - Communicates with a range other staff of all disciplines, acting as a highly specialist resource including liaison with health care providers both within and outside of the Trust regarding diagnosis and treatment advice. To include referral to other professionals e.g Oncologists, for continuation of patient care. Which has been enhanced by the move to a new Urology Department on Alstone Clinic. In addition, within the urology team we have nurse practitioners, surgical care practitioners and our specialised ward based in Cheltenham.
