A Vacancy at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The Eastern Pathology Alliance comprises three Pathology Laboratories based at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH), the James Paget University Hospital and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King’s Lynn. The Laboratory at NNUH provides a large range of Blood Sciences services including Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology and Transfusion, Immunology and Toxicology. The successful candidate will work closely with the Blood Sciences manager and the NNUH immunology clinical lead, and will be line manager to the immunology technical BMS staff. Demonstrable experience of managing staff and pathology services is essential. The role is based at the NNUH hub site and will be the service lead and subject matter expert for all aspects of the immunology laboratory service.

Responsibilities
* Serve as the service lead and subject matter expert for all aspects of the immunology laboratory service.
* Communicate, understand and interpret complex and sensitive test information to managers, consultants, nurses, other health care colleagues, patients and carers.
* Answer complex telephone inquiries from pathology users, patients and carers about test results and provide information as lead expert.
* Explain anomalies at the highest level of specialist knowledge when results do not align with clinical presentation, exercising tact and persuasive skills. Responsible for solving problems and writing policies to reduce risk factors.
* Be accountable for service delivery including emergency and on-call training, for urgent and routine work and specialised work, achieving stated turnaround times in line with Trust and Service policies.
* Be responsible for the management of complex analytical equipment on a daily basis and authorise fitness for clinical use.
* Ensure the efficient use of expensive tests and high-value analysers.
* Plan rotas to run test procedures daily across a range of specialist methodologies, including calibration and quality control testing.
* Fault-find on specialist analysers after formal training from manufacturers.
* Deliver formal training on specialist analysers to staff in their service.
* Develop, write, authorise and implement policies in the specialist area.
* Propose and implement changes that will improve and develop the service for external clinical users.
Qualifications
* HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist with extensive experience in Immunology and in managing staff.
* Experience overseeing the management and operation of an immunology laboratory in an NHS or equivalent setting.
