Support Worker - Mental Health Urgent Care Department
Base: Basildon Hospital
Hours: 7 days a week service delivery based on a rostered shift pattern. This is a 24-hour service providing maternity cover (secondment / fixed term).
An exciting opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join the Mental Health Urgent Care Department at Basildon. This service offers urgent biopsychosocial assessments and immediate care planning for individuals over 18 in Essex experiencing a mental health crisis. The department provides a calm and therapeutic setting, improving upon previous emergency department services for urgent/emergency mental health presentations.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will support clinicians working in the department. In a mental health crisis, services typically see individuals experiencing or having experienced issues such as:
* Self-harm requiring medical or surgical treatment
* Suicidal ideation
* Effects of alcohol and drug use, including co-occurring mental health problems
* Dementia or delirium
* Severe mental illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, severe depression, or personality disorders
* Social vulnerabilities linked to mental health or trauma, e.g., homelessness or domestic abuse
Role

Our HCA role is at band 3; however, if you lack sufficient experience but wish to join as an HCA, we offer a Band 2 HCA Apprentice position. Successful candidates at interview without enough experience may be offered this role, enrolled in an apprenticeship scheme to earn while learning, and work towards the Care Certificate, with potential progression to a Band 3 HCA role.
