Mission & Responsibilities
The Weights Engineer is responsible for the development, optimisation and management of mass, inertia and centre of gravity properties for aircraft seating products throughout the full life‑cycle (design, development and in‑service). The position functionally reports to the Head of Simulation and Test, and indirectly to the wider programme team for delivery and scheduling.
Key responsibilities include:
* Organisation & Planning: manage self and liaise with senior members to ensure tasks are completed to requirements on time.
* Technical: define product weight targets, sub‑assembly weight targets, prepare and review weights data using Excel, Mathcad, and CAD (Catia V5).
* Problem Solving: identify weight issues, support weight reduction opportunities, and lead related activities.
* Communication: prepare weighing schedules, reports, and liaise with Design, Certification, Stress, external suppliers, customers, airframers, regulatory bodies.
* Creativity & Innovation: support continuous improvement of department processes, methods, and manuals; promote innovative ideas.
Knowledge, Experience, Training and Qualifications
* 2:1 Bachelors (Honours) degree or equivalent in Mechanical / Aerospace / Structural Engineering, or HND/HNC qualifications.
* Working experience in Aerospace or comparable industry.
* Experience with Design Engineering competencies, behaviours and skills, including organisational and planning skills to meet deadlines.
* Ability to identify and implement weight reduction/optimisation opportunities.
* Proficiency in weights analysis standards, hand calculations using Microsoft Excel and/or Mathcad.
* Experience using CAD, preferably Catia V5, for weights analysis.
* Ability to prepare and review concise technical reports and presentations.
