Teacher of Economics

We are looking for a well-qualified, enthusiastic part time teacher of A Level Economics for September 2026. FTE is in the range of 0.4 - 0.5

Camden School for Girls is a highly successful and oversubscribed inner London comprehensive secondary school. We have a warm, welcoming and supportive ethos and aspire to excellence in all areas of the school provision. The school was founded in 1871 by Frances Mary Buss and has a long-standing history of ambition and excellence. We have been identified five times by government ministers as one of the top 100 schools in the country. We have a strong sense of community and we foster an environment where everyone feels valued.

Purpose of the Role

To deliver high-quality teaching of A Level Economics within the sixth form, ensuring excellent academic outcomes for students and fostering a deep understanding of economic theory, policy and real-world application. The successful candidate will contribute to the school’s commitment to academic excellence and intellectual curiosity.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

1. Plan and deliver engaging and challenging A Level Economics lessons in line with the Edexcel examination board specification.
2. Prepare high-quality teaching resources and schemes of work that support outstanding teaching and learning.
3. Assess, record and report on the progress and attainment of students in line with school policies.
4. Provide timely and constructive feedback to support student progress and achievement.
5. Support students in developing strong analytical, quantitative and evaluative skills.

Curriculum Development

6. Contribute to the ongoing development and review of the Economics curriculum within the sixth form.
7. Ensure teaching reflects current economic debates, research and global developments.
8. Participate in departmental planning and moderation activities.

Student Support

9. Provide academic guidance and support to sixth form students.
10. Contribute to the school’s pastoral system where appropriate.
11. Support students in preparation for examinations and further study.

Wider School Contribution

12. Attend relevant departmental meetings, training and professional development.
13. Contribute to enrichment opportunities such as economics societies, lectures, trips or competitions where possible.
14. Uphold the ethos, policies and safeguarding procedures of the school.

Personal Specification

Qualifications

Essential:

15. A good honours degree in Economics or a closely related discipline.
16. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.

Experience

Essential:

17. Experience teaching A Level Economics.
18. Evidence of successful teaching that leads to strong student outcomes.

Desirable:

19. Experience teaching in a high-achieving sixth form environment.
20. Experience supporting students applying to competitive universities.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential:

21. Strong subject knowledge in microeconomics and macroeconomics.
22. Ability to explain complex economic concepts clearly and effectively.
23. Strong organisational and planning skills.
24. Ability to inspire and challenge all students to achieve their potential.
25. Effective assessment and feedback strategies.
26. Use of data to inform planning, teaching and targeting.

Desirable:

27. Ability to integrate current economic issues and policy debates into teaching.
28. Interest in leading enrichment activities related to economics.

Salary Range & FTE

MPS/UPS FTE 0.4-0.5
