A little more about your role… You will join our Structures team in Gloucester, right at the start of WSPs long-term professional services contract for Gloucestershire County Council (GCC). Under this collaborative contract we are based in the client’s office, directly support our client’s officers and share a set of delivery objectives. You will work within a team of established professionals with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the varied structures within the county. You will be further supported by structures colleagues from across WSP who provide additional resources and specialist expertise to deliver high quality services. The 2025/26 financial year is an exciting time, with GCC providing considerable additional funding to the structures programme to protect and improve their structural assets. The County has a varied bridge stock, from viaducts to small masonry arches and everything in between. As a Bridge Inspector you will play a key role in assessing the condition of the client’s assets and supporting the identification and prioritisation of maintenance and repair works. With your colleagues in the local team, you will be delivering a programme of over 500 General and around 100 Principal Inspections each year. Added to this, you may be called upon to undertake Special Inspections and survey accident damage to structures. What we will be looking for you to demonstrate… A mature and self-aware approach to achieving high standards and safe working practices. A passion and aptitude for bridge inspection, combined with a sound understanding of bridge design principles. Familiarity with bridge inspections processes and Bridge Condition Indicators. A HNC, HND in civil/structural engineering, or equivalent demonstrable experience. Evidence of being a confident communicator able to convey your point of view and keep stakeholders and colleagues informed. Don’t quite meet all the criteria?
