Health, Safety & Fire Risk Assessor
UK-wide | Field-based | Immediate Start
We’re looking to appoint an experienced Health, Safety & Fire Risk Assessor to support a national retail estate and play a key role in keeping people safe, buildings compliant, and standards consistently high.
This is a hands-on, field-based role suited to someone who enjoys autonomy, variety, and working closely with operational teams to translate legislation into best practice. The role is available on a freelance and / or permanent basis and can offer an immediate start.
The Role
You’ll be responsible for delivering Health & Safety and Fire Risk Assessments across a multi-site portfolio, working collaboratively with central teams, maintenance partners and senior stakeholders to drive continuous improvement and compliance.
Key responsibilities include:
* Undertaking suitable and sufficient Health & Safety and Fire Risk Assessments in line with UK legislation
* Completing site visits and producing clear, robust reports via an online portal, identifying risks and recommending proportionate controls
* Applying current guidance and legislation including PAS 79, PAS 9980, the Fire Safety Act 2021 and Building Regulations
* Escalating risks where remedial actions are delayed or fall below required standards
* Supporting post-incident and post-fire inspections, reporting on findings
* Completing H&S audits and inspections, providing practical feedback to site teams
* Confidently liaising with enforcement authorities when required
* Educating and influencing teams through discussion, coaching and demonstration of good practice
About You
You’ll be a confident, organised and credible safety professional who can operate independently while building strong relationships across the business.
Essential experience & qualifications:
* Full UK driving licence
* Recognised Fire Safety / Fire Risk Assessment qualification (minimum NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate or equivalent)
* Strong working knowledge of UK fire safety and H&S legislation
* Experience applying fire and safety guidance in a retail or multi-site environment
* Comfortable producing clear written reports using MS Word and Excel
* Willing and able to travel across the UK and Ireland
* Experience dealing with fire authorities and environmental health officers
Desirable
* Recognised Health & Safety qualification
* Personal listing on a recognised fire safety register (e.g. IFE / IFSM / FRACS or equivalent), or willingness to work towards this
