South Wales Vets, Newport is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a confident clinician who enjoys hands-on veterinary work while also playing a key role in mentoring colleagues, supporting the team, and helping to shape the future of the practice The Role As Senior Vet, you’ll combine excellent clinical care with leadership support, working closely with the Practice Manager and wider team to ensure we continue to deliver the highest standards for our clients and their much-loved pets. You’ll Have The Opportunity To Provide high-quality veterinary care in both consultations and surgery Support, mentor, and inspire junior vets and nurses Work alongside the management team to maintain clinical standards and protocols Lead by example with clear, compassionate communication Contribute to the growth and ongoing success of the practice This role is ideal for either an established Senior Vet or a confident Veterinary Surgeon looking to step into a leadership position. Typically, the full-time position 40 hours across 4 days with 1:4 Saturdays and no OOH. We would also welcome part time applicants, for example a 3-day week. Our dynamic team (with certificate holders) Our group Clinical Director is based at the main Newport site and is very much hands-on with clinical work and supporting the team. We have many certificate-holders within our group and encourage self-development, with full support from your team and financial support from the practice. We strive for high clinical standards, practice evidence-based medicine, run monthly morbidity and mortality meetings, and regular in-house CPD, practice meetings and encourage a caring and sharing culture. Our group consists of 6 vets with a mix of full and part-time, Our nurses are always on hand and most are comfortable with schedule 3 procedures. Our newly refurbished practice South Wales Vets was established over 10 years ago on Malpas Road in Newport and in that time we have grown from one to four branches, with locations in Risca, Abertillery & Blackwood. Here at Blackwood, we have the best of both worlds, with easy access to Cardiff, Bristol, Newport and the Countryside such as the Brecon Beacons National Park. At the main branch Newport we have top-of-the-range facilities including an ultrasound machine, endoscope, dental radiography and Idexx in-house lab equipment which you can arrange to use. At the branch you have inhouse Idexx bloods machine, microscope, dental machine, theatre.
