Junior Clinical Fellow in Medical Oncology
Applications are invited for a 6 month appointment with a view to extend to a total of 1 year as a Junior Clinical Fellow in Medical Oncology at St. George's Hospital. The post holder will help to provide Medical Oncology services at St. George's Hospital, trained, supported and supervised by Consultants in Medical Oncology. This will include assessment and management of inpatients with diverse solid malignancies and lymphoma, including managing acute oncological emergencies and treatment of anti‑cancer therapy related toxicity. The successful candidate will attend and contribute to affiliated multi‑disciplinary meetings and consultant ward rounds and will assess and manage patients on the Oncology day unit. The post‑holder will work together with a team of oncology specialist registrars / senior clinical fellows operating at a specialist registrar level, two other junior clinical fellows and 2 physician associates. Normal working hours will be 8:30 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday.
Main Duties
Each tumour type is served by a comprehensive team working within the oncology department to provide complete multi‑disciplinary management in the creation of individual care pathways and treatment for each patient. Inpatient beds are provided on Trevor Howell and Gordon Smith wards. The wards are staffed by nurses with a specialist interest in oncology. Systemic anti‑cancer therapy is given by trained Oncology Nurses who liaise and work with the Oncology Nurses in the Outpatient Clinic. The department has a designated Outpatient clinic shared with Haematology.
About Us
The successful applicant will join an enthusiastic team of up to four deanery medical oncology specialist trainees, as well as one internal medicine trainee (IMT) and up to 2 other trust grade senior house officers. The post is an ideal training opportunity to improve skills and knowledge in general and acute medicine, and better understand the natural history of cancer, to learn more about the benefits and risks of cancer treatment and to expand one’s communication skills and team working.

Job Responsibilities

Qualifications and Training
* Full GMC Registration
* MB BS or equivalent (Essential)
* BSc or other Undergraduate degree (Desirable)
* MRCP(UK/I) or equivalent (Desirable)
Clinical Experience
* UK general medical experience of 24 months (including 6 months of acute unselected take) in an NHS hospital (Essential)
* Previous oncology experience (Desirable)
Knowledge and Skills
* Appropriate level of clinical knowledge (Essential)
* Appropriate experience and competence in common medical interventions (Essential)
* Ability to work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team (Essential)
* Previous experience with anti‑cancer treatment (Desirable)
Research
* Understanding of principles and applications of clinical research in Oncology (Desirable)
