PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

London is a patch like no other serving the largest and most diverse city in Europe on some of the biggest stories. BBC London prides itself on producing original journalism that reflects the many communities we serve. Our 6.30 evening programme, on BBC One, is regularly the most watched TV news programme in the capital. Our online stories are among the most read and our social media posts reach millions of people each week.

We work collaboratively across TV, Radio and Online and are committed to delivering impactful content that travels even further on all platforms. We are looking for a talented journalist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience of working in a busy newsroom and in multi‑platform environments.

We are looking for journalists that can bring fresh ideas and creative treatments, as well as the necessary skills to deliver them working across multiple platforms. This is primarily a production role; working alongside our talented team of reporters and correspondents.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM

BBC London strives to create an inclusive working culture and aims to give our team opportunities to develop in their careers with the multimedia storytelling skills they need to flourish across all platforms. We warmly welcome applications from all suitable candidates, and we’re especially keen to hear from candidates from the diverse communities we serve and represent.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

This role involves working the full range of TV Journalist shifts at BBC London, across the day on our BBC One programming. You’ll be part of our friendly and supportive team, pitching and developing original ideas and working with reporters and correspondents to get those stories across the line. You’ll be setting up filming and guests plus briefing your colleagues across the newsroom teams. You’ll commission graphics from our designer and create your own using templates and production tools and you’ll work with different teams to deliver these stories across all our platforms. We really encourage multimedia working, so you may find yourself working on our website and social media channels.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

You’ll have experience working in TV news, including outputting programmes in a live news gallery as well as delivering content across other platforms. What’s most important is that you’re full of great ideas, you love working in teams, you understand the importance of accuracy, and you enjoy being busy. You should also be really interested in working in a digital way so you can be part of how we get our stories to as many audiences as possible. You’ll also be no stranger to tackling a big story, working through logistical and editorial challenges often at short notice.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

* Experience working across different news platforms (TV, radio, online or social media)
* Evidence of TV newsroom experience and live gallery programme outputting.
* Strong news sense and ability to find a story
* Strong production skills: basic video editing, production tools such as OpenMedia, Jupiter and Wolftech
* MOJO experience
* Good legal and editorial understanding

If you can bring some of these skills and experiences, along with transferable strengths, we’d love to hear from you and encourage you to apply.
