Overview
Leadership/Strategy responsibilities for the L&OD portfolio with a focus on management development, contributing to NUH strategic programmes. Provide expert leadership and guidance in relevant topics aligned to L&OD (e.g., leadership and management, team working, learning and development). Lead short- and long-term project teams/interventions to develop programmes meeting employees' needs and Trust objectives. Research, review and propose initiatives to drive Trust Strategy in line with NUH policy, procedures, values and behaviours. Manage progress of key objectives/programmes and report performance regularly. Ensure alignment between L&OD projects, deliverables and the Trust's strategic priorities. Identify opportunities for externally funded training and incorporate into the employee offering. Network across the organisation to identify and scope service development needs, and support the L&OD senior team in delivering key programmes that support the Trust’s strategic priorities.
Operational Delivery
Design, deliver and evaluate L&OD offerings that are engaging and effective, identifying outcomes that meet core business needs using a range of delivery methods. Apply the OD cycle to scope, plan and deliver bespoke interventions, activities and programmes to support leaders and team effectiveness and drive culture change. Facilitate large group events such as leadership programmes, team development, and Trust induction.
* Work independently as a facilitator to enable others to develop capacity and capability across multi-disciplinary teams and inter-professional boundaries, including facilitation of self-reflection and 360-degree feedback with leaders and teams.
* Apply skills and knowledge of governance and project and programme leadership and support colleagues to take ownership and deliver new projects and activities.
* Undertake regular research in support of the project portfolio.
* Design and implement effective evaluation and review mechanisms for projects and L&OD programmes.
* Responsible for undertaking risk assessments to identify gaps and associated risks in the project portfolio and areas of work.
* Identify and secure resources necessary to deliver agreed projects, both short and longer term, ensuring projects remain within allocated budget.
Communication
Communicate complex service and project information effectively across all channels and facilitate collaborative working with multi-disciplinary colleagues. Engage staff in the department and wider organisation in support of strategic aims and objectives. Promote and share best practice using various media to communicate benefits and optimise impact. Liaise with local NHS partners, external agencies, third party contractors and the wider health community to maximise opportunities for collaborative activities. Attend meetings internally and externally and maintain excellent working relationships with Trust and System colleagues. Represent the Trust at external and internal conferences and chair relevant meetings, ensuring actions contributing to project progress are allocated and followed up appropriately.
Quality and Governance
Evaluate the impact of offerings, interventions and projects and provide evidence-based recommendations, presenting findings to appropriate internal and external forums. Collate and use data to inform decision making (e.g., Staff survey, evaluations, Training Needs Analysis). Prepare reports for approval by senior management teams and ensure projects are prioritised within available resources. Contribute to steering groups in a timely manner. Work with colleagues inside and outside of NUH to develop and implement systems and processes to support the programme portfolio, including data entry, communication processes, progress monitoring, evaluation, and cost management controls. Revise and update processes to drive continuous improvement across the L&OD portfolio. Participate in the development of internal policies, practices and procedures for L&OD topics.
Management
Provide day-to-day line management of L&OD facilitators and trainers, ensuring direct reports complete appraisals and mandatory training on time. Provide mentorship and support to team members to help them lead their own areas of responsibility. Support the L&OD senior leadership team in management of the team, including recruitment processes and regular team meetings. Contribute to the review of departmental priorities and annual objective setting. Support the investigation of complaints and incidents, ensuring follow-up actions are completed in line with policy. Deputise for the Organisational Development Service Lead/Head of Learning & Development as required.
