The Role This is a high-profile and politically sensitive role managing a caseload of military personal injury matters under supervision. You'll be working with service personnel, veterans, and their families on complex, high-value litigation involving defective equipment, training injuries, cold injuries, assaults, bullying/harassment and discrimination, AFCS claims, and noise-induced hearing loss claims. Your key responsibilities will include: Caseload Management: Running a caseload of military personal injury matters with limited supervision Managing cases at all stages from initial instructions through to archiving Acting for service personnel and veterans in high-value and complex litigation in County Courts, High Court, and Tribunal Services Assisting in claims of utmost severity with life-changing consequences Legal Work: Obtaining and preparing comprehensive file documentation Analysing evidence in cases involving high volumes of disclosure Presenting and arguing cases orally and in writing with clarity and precision Providing solutions-focused advice on complex legal problems in a straightforward, customer-friendly way Knowledge of the Service Complaints System and Armed Forces Compensation Scheme appeals Client Care: Dealing with client enquiries with empathy, professionalism, and compassion Providing clear, accessible communication to clients and other parties face-to-face and by telephone Producing clear and accurate letters and legal documents Managing client expectations and meeting matter deadlines Business Development: Developing business connections within the military claims sector Building relationships with service personnel, veterans' organisations, and referral sources Contributing to the growth and profile of the Military Claims team Billing & Administration: Billing files and obtaining monies due to the firm from clients and other parties Working in accordance with office and accounts procedures Providing support to other fee earners in the PI department where required About You Essential Requirements: Qualified Solicitor (with current Practising Certificate) or CILEx Lawyer with 3-5 years' PQE Experience of acting for service personnel and veterans in personal injury litigation Knowledge of claims against the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme Experience in high-value and complex litigation in County Courts, High Court, or Tribunal Services Passion and empathy for assisting service personnel, veterans, and their families to achieve justice Ability to analyse evidence in cases with high volumes of disclosure Solutions-focused mindset to complex legal problems with customer-friendly communication Professional and friendly client care with excellent telephone manner Ability to present and argue a case orally and in writing with clarity Organised, methodical, and with great attention to detail Ability to work accurately in accordance with procedures and processes Confident IT skills and ability to learn quickly Ability to organise and prioritise work to meet client expectations and deadlines Ability to work under pressure and on own initiative as part of a team Flexible, pro-active, and 'can do' attitude Desirable: Knowledge of the Service Complaints System Experience with AFCS claims and appeals Experience with Armed Forces Pension Schemes Track record in business development within the military claims sector Experience handling claims involving training injuries, defective equipment, cold injuries, assaults, bullying/harassment and discrimination, or noise-induced hearing loss What's On Offer Competitive salary: £40,000 - £60,000 (dependent on experience) Hybrid working arrangements for work-life balance (considered for the right candidate) Employee ownership: Be part of a 100% employee-owned business where your contribution is valued Award-winning career development opportunities with structured training and progression Supportive, collaborative environment with Yorkshire values and a genuine focus on employee experience High-profile, meaningful work making a real difference to service personnel, veterans, and their families Specialist expertise: Join a dedicated Military Claims team with national reputation Excellent training and professional development opportunities Work-life balance with flexible working options 24 branches across Yorkshire with modern offices in Leeds City Centre How to Apply If you're a Personal Injury Solicitor or CILEx Lawyer with 3-5 years' PQE and a passion for military claims, we'd love to hear from you.
