JOB TITLE: Senior Software Engineer (SAP)
LOCATION: Leeds
SALARY: £72,702 - £80,780
Hours: Full Time
WORKING PATTERN: We adopt hybrid working style which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at our Leeds office.
About this opportunity
The Senior Software Engineer for Insurance will be responsible for analysing business processes, designing functional solutions, and supporting the implementation and optimisation of SAP Insurance modules. The role focuses on configuring and enhancing SAP FS‑CD and Claims Management to support General Insurance and Life Insurance business functions.
What you’ll be doing…
Functional Analysis & Solution Design
1. Gather and analyse business requirements across insurance functions (policy, claims, billing, collections & disbursements).
2. Translate business needs into functional specifications and user stories.
3. Design end-to-end SAP solutions across FS‑CD, Claims Management and related components.
4. Work with technical teams to ensure correct implementation of user exits, enhancements, BAPIs, BADIs, workflows, and interfaces.
5. Analyse sophisticated business processes, identify gaps and recommend improvements using SAP standard guidelines. ctices
Configuration & Implementation
6. Configure SAP FS‑CD (Contract Accounts, Payment Processing, Dunning, Correspondence).
7. Support Claims Management processes (FNOL, adjudication, settlements).
8. Support integration with SAP ABAP teams, middleware, and external systems.
Testing & Documentation
9. Prepare functional test cases, UAT scenarios, and coordinate testing cycles.
10. Document configuration, functional designs, and process flows.
11. Support defect analysis and resolution during SIT/UAT.
Business Engagement & Support
12. Act as a bridge between insurance operations and SAP engineering teams.
13. Provide subject‑matter expertise for regulatory, finance, and operational reporting requirements.
14. Support production issues, root cause analysis, and continuous process improvement.

What you’ll need:
15. Extensive SAP Functional Experience, with at least 2 full cycle implementations
16. Strong configuration knowledge and experience in SAP FS‑CD (Collections & Disbursements) and Claims Management (FS‑CM or custom GI Claims solutions).
17. Extensive SAP Functional Experience, with at least 2 full cycles
18. Understanding of Insurance data models, premium processing, bordereaux, and financial integration.
19. Ability to write and review functional specifications for ABAP developments.
20. Familiar with batch jobs, interfaces, IDocs, BAPIs, and middleware integrations.
21. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
22. Experience working in AGILE environments (SCRUM ceremonies, user story creation).
23. Drive full cycle implementations from a functional perspective.
24. Experience in production support, incident resolution and change implementation.
25. Ability to communicate complex SAP and process concepts in clear, simple terms for claims teams, underwriters, finance, risk partners, and leadership.
And any experience of these would be useful:
26. SAP Insurance (FS‑I*) training/certification.
27. Degree in IT, Engineering, Finance, or a related field complemented by equivalent experience
28. ITIL v4 certification
29. Experience with Agile delivery methods.
