An exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our dynamic project team. Based in Walsall, you will oversee a diverse portfolio of projects within the Southern Frameworks, ranging from £250k to £8M, partnering with leading water companies.
We are part of the Mechanical and Electrical section of Integrated Water Services (IWS M&E), part of South Staffordshire Plc. IWS M&E offers services including pump diagnostics, refurbishment, project management, telemetry, chemical dosing and control, instrumentation installation and maintenance, environmental management, and emergency response. These services address water, wastewater, and environmental issues across the UK, operating 24/7. IWS M&E is a growing company seeking talented employees in a challenging and rewarding environment.
What’s the role:
1. Ascertain client requirements through specifications or site visits with nominated personnel.
2. Determine operational requirements and propose suitable solutions, working with the Design Team and Project Manager to ensure designs are value-engineered and meet client specifications.
3. Promote innovation and challenge parties to ensure cost-effective design activities.
4. Provide engineering calculations and solutions from inception to completion, collaborating with design partners, site personnel, and clients.
5. Coordinate design production between in-house teams, external designers, suppliers, subcontractors, and clients’ designers where applicable.
6. Ensure designs are approved by clients within stipulated timescales.
7. Complete all design work to agreed programmes, budgets, KPIs, and high-quality standards, complying with IWS M&E procedures.
What you will need:
Essential:
* An industry-recognized BEng, BSc, or equivalent in a mechanical discipline
* Knowledge of hydraulic calculations, including pipelines and pump duties
* Commercial and contractual awareness
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office
* Good time management and ability to prioritize workload
* Excellent communication skills (email, phone, face-to-face)
* A proactive attitude and team support skills
Desirable:
* Experience in water and sewage treatment processes
* Knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, and FEA software
