Overview
We are delighted to present an exciting opportunity to join our Breast Clinical Nurse Specialist Team at The Parapet at King Edward VII Hospital, as a Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist, on a fixed term contract to cover maternity leave. You will support patients under investigation for breast cancer through diagnosis and treatment onto the Supported-Self-Management-Pathway. You will participate in the multi-disciplinary team, supporting patients in both out-patient and in-patient settings. You will run nurse-led clinics, including prosthesis services, and support patients pre and post operatively. You should have a basic understanding of breast cancer treatments and how to help patients self-manage and live well with their cancer and its treatments.
Applications for this post are invited from nurses who are passionate about delivering excellence in breast cancer care. Ideally, you will have experience in oncology, SACT or palliative care, or be highly motivated to learn. Previous experience at Band 6 is preferred but not essential. We are seeking a dynamic, forward-thinking individual who is flexible, self-motivated, reliable and a good team player. You should be educated to degree level and be willing to develop academic and clinical practice and commit to continuing education.
Responsibilities
* The post-holder will act as Keyworker for breast cancer patients, providing a link between patients and health care professionals across primary, secondary and tertiary care and act as an advocate for patients/families.
* The post-holder will continually develop, implement and evaluate the Breast Cancer Service to improve and maintain standards of patient care and promote a seamless service within a multi-professional framework.
* The post-holder will be a clinical expert in breast cancer with excellent communication skills. The role requires the ability to work autonomously and independently but within an integrated collaborative team.
* The post-holder will establish services with the aim of providing support and early referral to associated services for breast cancer patients, including those undergoing cancer treatments.
