Job Summary
GKN Aerospace seeks a dedicated Sr. Physical Vapor Deposition Technician to work on new product development and support existing products for transparency applications (glass/plastics) on military and commercial aircraft.
Job Responsibilities
* Support R&D Engineering with Physical Vapor Deposition coating projects and new product development.
* Assist with chemical flow coatings and sample preparation as directed.
* Work with operators to run Physical Vapor Deposition coating tests in vacuum chambers.
* Coordinate with Operations to schedule coating testing.
* Perform physical testing and use machine shop equipment to fabricate test samples.
* Manage daily workload independently.
* Support plant operations under R&D engineering guidance.
* Assist in sample preparation in the machine shop.
* Collect and compile test data.
* Support characterization of thin film materials.
Required Qualifications:
* Associate's Degree in physics or materials sciences, or 5 years of relevant experience in Physical Vapor Deposition and equipment.
* 2 years of experience with PVD/sputter coating, vacuum chambers, machine shop equipment, and troubleshooting.
* Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
* Basic computer skills with Microsoft Office.
* Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
* U.S. Citizenship per ITAR regulations.
Preferred Qualifications:
* College-level science and math background, relevant work experience.
* Hands-on sample preparation skills, detail-oriented.
* Willingness to work overtime/weekends as needed.
* Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
* Experience in aerospace industry PVD processes.
* Familiarity with PLC software and machine shop equipment.
* Strong attention to detail and communication skills.
