An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Occupational Therapy Team as a Band 4 Occupational Therapy Technician within the well-established Community Resource Teams. We are looking for a motivated, dynamic, confident person with experience of working in an NHS community setting. The team focuses on supporting people to maintain independence at home. The successful candidate will be based across two sites (Whitchurch and Llanrumney) and will also provide cover across the wider Cardiff area as required.

This post is a community role involving travel between patient homes with equipment. The holder must be a driver with a valid UK driving licence and daily access to a car. There is also a small amount of home‑based working to complete administration tasks. Internet/Wi‑Fi connection is essential.
Main duties of the job
* Work with Occupational Therapists to implement and manage aspects of the Occupational Therapy treatment programme in consultation with Patients / families / Caregivers and other members of the Multi‑Disciplinary Team.
* Assist with restoring functional ability in patient homes, including assessment for standard aids with guidance from the Occupational Therapist.
* Carry out routine administrative duties as per departmental policies and contribute to waiting list management.
* Provide training to patients and staff where required.
* Participate in a seven‑day service with a weekend and bank holiday rota.
* Demonstrate sound IT skills and maintain equipment.
* Welsh speaking ability is desirable; Welsh and/or English speakers are welcome to apply.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Take responsibility for implementing and managing aspects of the Occupational Therapy treatment programme with service users and carers/key workers (e.g., prepare and plan group and/or individual therapeutic activity).
* Use specialised technical/creative skills to manage and provide a flexible, client‑centred programme of therapeutic activities for individuals/groups aimed at restoring functional ability in community settings.
* Assess for standard aids under guidance of the Occupational Therapist.
* Work as part of the Occupational Therapy team and promote independence, health, well‑being and safety.
* Carry out routine administrative duties as per departmental policies.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Good standard of basic education – GCSE Maths and English (A‑C) or equivalent.
* NVQ/QCF Level 4 or equivalent knowledge, or NVQ/QCF Level 3 (e.g., AGORED diploma) plus additional training to diploma level or equivalent via short course, experience and competencies achieved through accredited courses.
* Health and Social Care related qualification.
Experience
* Relevant experience of working in a rehabilitation/clinical setting.
* Organisation of delegated workload to support direct patient care.
* Inter‑professional team working.
* Involvement with carers and families.
* Experience of working across statutory and voluntary agencies.
* Previous experience in a therapy assistant role.
Skills
* Acts in accordance with the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers in Wales.
