An established engineering and infrastructure business is seeking an Operational Health & Safety Manager to lead health, safety, and compliance across both office and UK-wide project sites.
This role is particularly well suited to individuals who have transitioned from a site or project management background into Health & Safety, bringing strong operational understanding alongside HSE expertise.
You will work closely with senior leadership to drive a proactive safety culture, ensure legal compliance, and support efficient project delivery.
Responsibilities
Lead and manage Health & Safety across office and UK-wide project sites
Develop, implement, and maintain H&S policies in line with UK legislation
Ensure ongoing compliance with all relevant regulations and standards
Conduct risk assessments, method statements, and safe systems of work
Carry out site inspections and audits, identifying areas for improvement
Oversee contractor safety, including RAMS reviews and permit-to-work systems
Lead investigations into incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions
Identify root causes and drive corrective and preventative actions
Deliver H&S training and ensure workforce competence across all levels
Promote a proactive, positive safety culture across operational teams
Monitor HSE performance, analyse trends, and report to senior leadership
Support continuous improvement across processes, systems, and behavioursRequirements
NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent)
Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation
Experience within an operational environment (e.g. construction, engineering, manufacturing)
Background in site or project management, with a transition into HSE highly desirable
Proven experience in risk assessments and incident investigations
Strong written and analytical skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
Confident communicator, able to influence and challenge at all levels
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word & Excel)Desirable

Knowledge of ISO 45001 management systems
