Shape Safer, Smarter Buildings Across North Yorkshire
Our Building Control Service in North Yorkshire Council is ambitious for the future. As the largest Council geographically, we are a growing team, investing in our workforce and have the advantage of working at scale across our stunning region.
Are you a detail-driven professional who wants to make a real impact in the built environment? Do you thrive on variety, autonomy, and being part of a forward-thinking team? If so, this could be the ideal next step in your career.
We’re looking for a talented and motivated Building Control Surveyor to join the North Yorkshire Building Control Partnership (NYBCP) — the UK’s first and most established local authority building control partnership. Whether you're an experienced surveyor or working towards qualification, we want to hear from you. As an experienced professional we can offer you career growth and you can help shape our future practice and people, or as a newly developing professional you will join a team that will enhance your personal and professional growth.
About Us
At NYBCP, we’re proud to set the standard for modern, collaborative public sector building control. Representing North Yorkshire Council, we work with a wide range of residential, commercial and complex development projects - from historic renovations to sustainable new builds.
We don’t just ensure compliance with the Building Act 1984 - we promote safety, sustainability, accessibility, and great design. Join us, and you’ll be part of a respected, innovative and supportive team, delivering a vital service with pride.
What You’ll Do
* Conduct site inspections and assess building plans to ensure full compliance with Building Regulations and associated legislation.
* Provide expert advice and guidance to clients, architects, and developers on compliance, technical standards, and best practices.
* Lead or support enforcement actions and contribute to maintaining high standards of public safety.
* Build strong relationships with stakeholders to ensure a professional, solution-focused service.
What You’ll Bring
* A good understanding of Building Regulations and relevant legislation (Level 3, 4 or 5 Surveyors welcome).
* Excellent communication and customer service skills.
* Strong organisational ability and attention to detail — able to manage your workload and work independently.
* A positive, proactive attitude and willingness to learn, adapt, and grow.
* Relevant qualifications (or working towards) in Building Control, Surveying or Construction disciplines.
Why Join Us?
At NYBCP, we value people just as much as performance. We offer a flexible, forward-thinking environment where you can thrive — both personally and professionally.
* Flexible Hybrid Working: Work from home, an office near you, or on-site — we trust you to work in the way that suits you and the role.
* Career Progression: Whether you're just starting out or looking to develop further, we’ll support you with a clear progression pathway, mentoring and financial support for qualifications.
* Generous Leave and Work-Life Balance: Enjoy 28 days of annual leave (rising with service), plus public holidays, flexible hours, and paid volunteering days.
* Outstanding Pension Scheme: Benefit from the security of the Local Government Pension Scheme.
* Employee Perks: Take advantage of retail discounts, cycle-to-work schemes, green car plans and much more.
* The basic salary for the post is from £34,434 – £42,839 plus a market supplement of £3,600 per annum, providing an annual salary package of up to £46,439. For the right candidate, a recruitment welcome payment of up to 10% of starting salary may be payable as a one-off welcome payment.
