Content & Design Assistant (Part-Time, In-House)

* £15–£16 per hour (Full-time equivalent: £29,250–£31,200, prorated to 12 hours/week across 2 days)
* Ideally working Monday & Tuesday, 9:30am–3:30pm – some flexibility on days available depending on the candidate
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Design Assistant to join our growing digital marketing agency based in St Albans. We specialise in social media and website builds for construction and trade businesses and require a designer who can help bring our clients' work to life with clear, engaging and consistent visuals.
This permanent, part-time position is well suited to someone who is looking to apply and develop their skills across a variety of brands and formats within a collaborative and supportive team.
Role Overview
You will be responsible for producing social media graphics on Canva using a combination of client-supplied imagery and your own designs, working in line with existing brand guidelines. Most of the work will be digital but there may occasionally be opportunities to create printed materials or branded collateral.
You will not be client-facing but you'll have access to all content and assets provided by clients. You'll work closely with one of the company directors, who leads the content creation side of the business.
Key Responsibilities
* Create social media posts / graphics for multiple client brands using Canva
* Work within established brand guidelines to ensure consistency and quality
* Support with other ad-hoc design tasks as needed
* Design branded materials such as brochures, flyers, signage and other digital/print assets
* (Desirable but not essential) Create short-form video content or Reels using supplied imagery and footage
Required Skills & Experience
* Proficient in Canva
* Good understanding of visual layout, balance and brand consistency
* Strong attention to detail and a positive, adaptable attitude
* Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines
* Willingness to learn and apply feedback constructively
* Fluent in English, with strong written comprehension to ensure accuracy in spelling and grammar across all design work
Desirable but Not Essential
* Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator or other design software
* Basic video editing or motion graphics experience (eg. CapCut)
* Interest or experience in the construction or trades sector
Working Hours & Location
* 12 hours per week across two days (9:30am - 3:30pm - Monday & Tuesday ideally)
* This is a permanent role, based in AL4, St Albans, Hertfordshire
* Some flexibility for hybrid working depending on workload and circumstances
Reporting & Team Structure
* Reports to the company directors
* Works closely with the content director
* Small, collaborative team in a growing and creative business
Progression & Development
As the business grows, we're looking for someone who can grow with us. For the right person, there is the opportunity to progress into a Lead Designer role in the future, supporting future employees with their progression.
Contract & Review
* This role includes a probation period, during which specific targets will be set and reviewed
* Progress will be assessed quarterly to ensure expectations are being met and to support ongoing development
What Success Looks Like
In the first few months, you will become more confident with daily design tasks, work independently with minimal input and begin to contribute suggestions for improving design processes and workflows. Over time, you will take on a broader creative role within the team.

* Progress towards additional remote hours each month, based on consistently completing core responsibilities within contracted hours and business demand. These additional hours may vary depending on workload and company performance.
