The Events & Training Manager is responsible for the strategic design, development, and leadership of the 18‑month Events and Training Programme aligned to the Chamber’s business goals. This role takes full accountability for the quality, impact, financial performance and continuous innovation of the Chamber’s events portfolio.

The Events & Training Manager will lead the end‑to‑end planning and delivery of a diverse events and training calendar, ensure strong commercial return, and drive forward the Chamber’s reputation for delivering exceptional, relevant, and engaging experiences. The Events & Training Manager provides direction, leadership, and coaching to the Events & Training Apprentice to ensure operational excellence, high standards, and proactive development across the function.

* Create, lead and continually evolve a forward‑thinking Events & Training Strategy aligned to organisational objectives.
* Conduct ongoing market research to identify emerging business themes, new training opportunities, and innovative event formats.
* Develop an impactful annual and long‑range events schedule that supports business growth, membership retention, and audience engagement.


Leadership & Team Oversight

* Provide day‑to‑day leadership, mentoring, and task direction to the Events & Training Apprentice.
* Drive high performance, accountability, and professional development within the events team.
* Lead by example as the primary Chair/Compere at key events, ensuring professional delivery and audience engagement.
* Work closely with senior management to support the wider business plan, commercial targets, and organisational goals.


Event & Training Delivery

* Ensure all events consistently meet the Chamber’s quality standards, customer experience expectations, and brand values.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with venues, suppliers, trainers, speakers, sponsors, and partners.
* Lead the hosting and delivery of events, training and network clubs, confidently representing the Chamber at high‑level functions.
* Lead on the planning, organising, administration and hosting and Charing of the Network Clubs.
* Lead with the planning, organisation and delivery of the Shropshire Chamber Business Awards, the highlight event of the year.
* Own the events and training budget, ensuring effective cost control, revenue generation, and profitability.
* Produce accurate forecasts, financial reporting, and monthly performance updates.
* Identify opportunities to grow commercial income, attract sponsors, and increase member participation.


Stakeholder Engagement

* Work closely with Account Managers to ensure member needs are understood and reflected in the events and training programme.
* Build influential relationships with members, partners, and stakeholders to support retention and membership growth.
* Act as a senior ambassador of the Chamber at events, strengthening engagement and visibility.
* Monitor and analyse events and training delegate feedback to drive continuous improvement.
* Stay informed of competitor activities, market trends, and best practices to ensure the events programme and training courses stay relevant, modern, and competitive.
* Proactively identify improvements to event and training processes, technology, customer experience, and delivery methods.
* Work closely with the Marketing Team to develop strong promotional plans and ensure maximum event and training visibility.
* Ensure all CRM entries, event and training listings, and delegate records are accurate and up‑to‑date.
* Provide timely communication to internal teams to ensure alignment and effective execution.


Operational Duties (where required)

* Support room hire bookings, logistics, and on‑site management as needed.
* Ensure all compliance, health & safety, and policies are adhered to.
* Uphold and promote the Chamber’s values, standards, and accreditation requirements


Professional Profile & Skills

* Minimum 3 years’ experience in event and/or training management in a B2B or corporate environment.
* Proven track record in leading, developing, and delivering high‑quality event programmes.
* Demonstrable experience in budget management, commercial performance, and strategic planning.
* Confident, engaging, and professional presenter with experience Chairing and Compering events.
* Strong leadership and team‑development skills.
* Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and relationship‑building ability.
* Highly organised, proactive, and solutions‑focused with strong attention to detail.
* Ability to work flexibly including early starts and later finish times, travel to event sites, and manage multiple priorities under pressure.
* Strong digital competence including CRM systems, social media, and MS Office Suite.

Tasks to be performed are not limited by this job description. The post-holder will be required to take additional duties within their capabilities as and when workloads demand. The role may change depending on the needs of the business. Training and support will be given in the event of major changes.

* To work closely with the different departments.
* To keep updated with all new marketing materials and information and maintain a thorough knowledge of new procedures and statutory/regulatory requirements.
* To work closely with other team members and complement and support the organisation’s delivery and development.
* To ensure that all events information is entered on to the Chamber’s CRM system in accordance with agreed procedures.
* To adhere to and actively promote the Chamber Equal Opportunities policy.
* At all times to work within the Chamber Health and Safety policy and ensure so far as is reasonable that safe working practices are established, maintained and followed.
* To work within and assist in maintaining the BCC Accreditation Standard for the organisation.
* Work alongside Management to support the business plan

Salary: Up to £32,000 (based on experience) per year
