Clinical Trials Assistant

The closing date is 17 May 2026

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 4 Clinical Research Assistant to join the Academy of Research and Improvement team within Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. This is a full time fixed‑term maternity cover contract; however, job share and alternative part‑time arrangements will be considered.

The Academy integrates research, quality improvement, clinical effectiveness and patient and public engagement to facilitate and support evidence‑based community care across Hampshire and the IOW.

This role will focus on supporting Research Nurses and Allied Health Professionals in the delivery of NIHR portfolio research studies. The main activities involve helping to recruit participants for research studies and providing administrative support for the management of site files and computer databases. The post‑holder will be expected to work on research studies across a range of specialty areas.

As well as working with our clinical teams, a core component of our research is our community research partnership model, in which we work collaboratively with other care organisations to deliver studies. We work with care homes, schools, charities and community organisations.

You will have significant experience in a patient‑facing healthcare role and administrative experience in a healthcare setting. Although research experience is desirable, it is not essential as full training will be provided. You will need a full UK driving licence and have access to a car.

Main duties of the job

* To support with the identification of participants for NIHR adopted studies according to research protocols and guidelines using a variety of methods such as attending clinical meetings, reviewing clinical data and liaising with care coordinators.
* Perform research activities according to International Council for Harmonisation of Technical Requirements for Pharmaceuticals for Human Use (ICH) Guideline for Good Clinical Practice (GCP), legislation and policy relating to the conduct of research and according to the study protocol.
* Assist in the care and follow‑up of clinical trial patients. Where appropriate and for specific trials, the post‑holder may be expected to work autonomously obtaining patient informed consent to participate in a study, provide information, education and support to patients on clinical trials.
* Deliver direct care to participants within scope of competence, coordinate and undertake a range of clinical tasks and observations including but not limited to venesection, blood pressure (manual and electronic), preparation of blood samples, and measuring height and weight.
* Provide administrative and data management support, including data entry and management for a variety of databases, compile study folders, prepare documents for monitoring, meeting planning and general administrative duties.
