Offer description

Our children and young people need highly skilled and committed people who can build appropriate relationships and support them on their journey to a positive future.

We are looking to appoint a number of full time (37 hours) Team Leaders at Aldine House Secure Children's Home. As a Team Leader you will provide the highest standards of care to our young people. We are licensed to provide care, education and support to ten children and young people aged between 10 and 18. As a specialist service, we provide a critical first-line child protection and public protection service.

We work with young people who have been placed in secure accommodation either because they are deemed to be too vulnerable to be placed in an open residential placement, they have been sentenced by the courts or they have been placed with us on remand. Each young person presents a distinct and significant challenge to our staff who work together to build relationships and help young people make progress. All of our staff are required to show high levels of resilience and resourcefulness in order to work successfully with our young people.

With previous experience within the youth justice arena and residential childcare you will be responsible for the day to day management of a team of residential support workers and to ensure that a high standard of care, control, support and security is delivered to all staff and young people within the Home. You will be responsible for the case management and have some experience of staff supervision and deployment.

Team Leaders provide positive and assertive parenting that establishes clear boundaries, but is entirely child-centred. Though you do not need to be a parent you will have significant experience in residential childcare, youth justice, special education or a similar field. This will enable you to work with individuals and small groups of young people to ensure their day to day wellbeing, deliver leisure activities, group work and 1:1 key sessions.

If successful, you will work according to a rota pattern that includes regular weekend working and Bank Holidays. You will be paid at an enhanced rate for ‘unsociable hours’.

What you can expect

1. Exceptionally competitive salary when factoring in secure unit allowance and enhancements for working unsociable hours.
2. Opportunities to undertake additional hours
3. An opportunity to join an experienced and genuinely passionate multi-agency professional team.
4. Excellent training and opportunities for professional development and career progression

As an officer of Sheffield City Council you will adhere to and exceed the standards outlined in the Code of Conduct. Sheffield City Council requires that new staff in our service undergo an enhanced DBS check along with other safeguarding checks. This forms part of a rigorous and demanding recruitment process. We set very high standards because we invest heavily in our employees, with respect to time and resource. As a Team Leader at Aldine House, you will receive continuous training and ongoing professional development and support to enable you to become an outstanding practitioner.

This includes monthly supervisions with your line manager as well as monthly Probationary Review Meetings throughout your first year in the role.

We offer huge challenges and rewards: are you ready to test yourself?

Applicants must be over 23 years of age to work at Aldine House.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety of children and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. All successful candidates will be required to complete an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check.

We are investing in our workforce and are promoting opportunities to our under-represented groups. We value equality, diversity and inclusion and are focused on increasing the diversity of our workforce, particularly the number of Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic, Disabled and LGBTQ+ people, so that our teams reflect the communities in the city we serve. We are also supporting staff with unpaid caring responsibilities to work flexibly.
