Locally Employed Doctor Higher in Rheumatology

We are delighted to offer a full‑time Locally Employed Doctor (Higher) post to work in the Rheumatology Department at Solihull Hospital. The post is fixed for 12 months with a view to extend the contract for a further 12 months.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive and forward‑thinking team of Rheumatologists, junior doctors and clinical nurse specialists. The post would be ideal for someone wishing to enhance their skills and develop their career within Rheumatology.

The Rheumatology service has its own dedicated unit that includes an infusion suite and outpatient rooms for delivering daily urgent clinics with some clinics delivered from the main outpatient department.

The appointee will participate in a medical rota covering wards on the Solihull Hospital site.


Main Duties of the Job

* Provide with medical colleagues a quality service to the Trust, with responsibility for the diagnosis and treatment of patients referred to the specialty.
* Day‑to‑day management of inpatients and outpatients.
* Participate in medical cover/rota on the Solihull Hospital site.
* Participate in audit and in continuing medical education.
* Continue to develop and improve the provision of Rheumatology services.
* Comply with continuing medical education requirements of the Royal College.
* Participate in audit and continuing professional development.
* Work with colleagues to provide a comprehensive rheumatology service for the Trust and ensure that the highest standards of care are achieved.
* Contribute to the Trust’s corporate and strategic objectives and undertake mandatory training required by the Trust.
* Work with colleagues to meet the required activity targets of the Trust.
* Demonstrate active participation in clinical audit.
* Deputise for colleagues, including covering for absences of leave and at short notice in exceptional circumstances.
* Take responsibility for personal and professional development.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Full GMC with licence to practice
* Evidence of Continuing Professional Development including CME
* MRCP or equivalent


Experience

* 2 years experience in General Medicine at an ST2 level and some experience in Rheumatology


Additional Criteria

* Ability to manage and lead a clinical team
* Ability to organise and manage outpatient/inpatient priorities in accordance with Trust requirements
* Ability and willingness to work within the Trust and NHS performance framework and targets
* Experience of audit, knowledge of complaints, ethical issues and Clinical Governance
* Understanding of training systems and active participation in training structures/trainee supervision
* Experience of teaching medical students
* Ability to teach clinical skills
* Evidence of understanding clinical research processes
* Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems
* Ability to work effectively in a team & with colleagues from a wide range of professional and organisational backgrounds
* Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills
* Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies
* Ability to understand patient and carer/family requirements
* Ability to persuade and influence
* Good presentational skills including complex clinical & managerial information to a wide range of audiences
* Ability to maintain composure and set high standards of behaviour when under pressure
* Enquiring, critical approach to work
* Caring and kind attitude to patients
* Ability to work effectively with those who may express strong opposing views
* Occupational Health Clearance
* Flexibility & agreement to undertake routine work during premium time as necessary for service requirements.
