An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lead Pharmacist - Specialist Surgery to join our dedicated Pharmacy Department at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals. This role will see you working alongside the Lead Pharmacist - General Surgery to lead on the clinical pharmacy service to this area. We are looking for a pharmacist with a proven track record in hospital pharmacy or equivalent experience. You\'ll possess excellent clinical knowledge, strong communication skills and the ability to influence and lead. Crucially you\'ll be passionate about continuous improvement and eager to contribute to the development of pharmacy services.

Main duties

The successful candidate will work at a senior level within the service and play an influential role in the patient\'s care pathway whilst building upon proven clinical skills. The combination of responsibilities will significantly facilitate your growth in both the clinical and leadership aspects of this role.

You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to promote clinical and cost-effective prescribing through evidence based guidelines. The post holder will develop, audit and monitor Medicines Management processes within the service and provide training and supervision to departmental staff.

In addition to well-developed communication and leadership skills you will have previous experience of working within a clinical environment and will have completed a post-graduate diploma in clinical pharmacy. Evidence of multi-disciplinary teamwork would be advantageous.

Training and support will be provided. A commitment to continuing professional development is essential. It is envisaged that the candidate will possess a prescribing qualification or be prepared to work towards one.


Person Specification


Education and Qualifications

* Vocational master\'s degree in pharmacy.
* 12 months pre-registration training and experience.
* Registered with the GPhC.
* Postgraduate qualification in Clinical Pharmacy.
* Prescribing qualification or working towards


Experience and Knowledge

* Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
* Good organisation and time management skills
* Good clinical pharmacy knowledge - maintains a broad level of pharmacy practice.
* Ability to work on own initiative and effectively as part of a team
* Ability in problem solving.
* Ability to organise and motivate oneself and others efficiently.
* Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of safe pharmacy practice.
* Evaluates quality of own work.
* Ability to think strategically.
* Applies sound professional judgement to legal and ethical issues.
* Pro-active and innovative.
* Experience in medicines safety


Work or other experience

* Minimum of 4 years post-registration experience of which 2 years must be within a clinical pharmacy role within a hospital setting at band 7.
* Previous experience in providing information to support the annual budget setting process and trends within expenditure
* Previous experience in inputting to training programmes in a clinical setting.
* Experience of working within a role involving multidisciplinary communication.
* Demonstrable experience of staff supervision/ management including the ability to delegate appropriately.
* Experience in the development of policies, procedures and guidelines.
* Experience in clinical audit
