Deputy Store Manager – Pets at Home, St Austell, Cornwall
Overview
Pets at Home is looking for a passionate and proactive Deputy Manager to join the leadership team at our St Austell Pet Care Centre. This role is about more than just supporting day‑to‑day operations; it’s about leading by example, inspiring your team, and delivering an exceptional experience for both pets and their people.
Key Responsibilities
* Step up to lead operations when the Store Manager is absent, ensuring smooth running of the pet care centre.
* Work closely with the Store Manager to share responsibility for performance, team development, and customer engagement.
* Drive performance, set tone, inspire team and maintain high standards of operational excellence and compliance.
* Create a culture of fun, inclusivity and collaboration where everyone feels welcome and supported.
* Deliver a best‑in‑class customer experience, tailored advice and genuine care for every visitor and their pets.
* Represent Pets at Home values and maintain a welcoming, knowledgeable, and pet‑loving environment.
Requirements
* Experience running a team in a busy retail, hospitality or customer‑focused environment as a manager or supervisor.
* Experience working with KPIs and driving team performance.
* Passion for coaching, developing and motivating staff.
* Strong communication and organisational skills – remain calm on busy days.
* Ability to work a 7‑day rota including weekends and bank holidays.

Other Details
Full‑time, £28,500 – £31,000 per annum, permanent contract, 39 contracted hours per week, Location: 2B, Pentewan Road Retail Park, Pentewan Road, St Austell, Cornwall, PL25 5BU. Organisation: Pets at Home.
