Saga Insurance is recruiting a new Head of Pricing to join the business at the end of 2025.
This is a senior leadership position, you will be responsible for overseeing the end-to-end pricing strategy, design, and execution within Saga’s specialist insurance operation. You will be a credible pricing leader, keen to join our team of pricing and data experts.
You will demonstrate integrity, effectiveness, and competitiveness of all pricing-related processes, underpinned by robust analytics, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement. This is a pivotal part in driving commercial performance, supporting trading decisions, and safeguarding the organisation’s market position through expert management of pricing frameworks, predictive modelling, and data-driven insights.
We work in a hybrid way at Saga both at home and in the office. The commercial team work mainly from London and Folkestone and tend to have a pattern of 2 office days a week. When we do come together as a team, it allows us to grow and learn plus it is a great opportunity to socialise and celebrate too!
Role Responsibility
• Pricing Algorithm Maintenance and Design: Lead the design, development, and ongoing refinement of pricing algorithms to ensure accuracy, fairness, and commercial competitiveness.
• Predictive Modelling and Model Monitoring: Develop and oversee the deployment of predictive models for pricing.
• Model Development and Enhancement: Drive the development of new pricing models, incorporating advanced statistical and machine learning techniques to improve pricing precision and risk assessment.
• Data Enrichment and Feature Engineering: Identify, source, and integrate additional data sets to enrich pricing models.
• Pricing Adequacy Definition and Review: Define pricing adequacy standards and conduct periodic reviews to ensure pricing remains aligned with business objectives, risk appetite, and market trends.
• Panel Insight, Product Development: Oversee the creation and enhancement of panel insight products, providing actionable intelligence to inform pricing and commercial strategies.
• Data Preparation for Pricing Processes: Ensure that data utilised in pricing processes is accurate, timely, and fit for purpose.
• Management Information (MI) and Modelling: Deliver high-quality management information and analytics to support pricing decisions.
• Regulatory and Conduct Review: Lead regular reviews to ensure all pricing practices comply with relevant regulations and conduct standards, including fair value and transparency requirements.
• Attestation of General Insurance Pricing Practices: Provide formal attestation of adherence to general insurance pricing regulations and industry best practices, supporting senior management and regulatory submissions.
Continuous Improvement and Framework Management
• Process Optimisation: Champion the continuous improvement of pricing processes, identifying opportunities for efficiency gains and enhanced accuracy.
• Management of the Pricing Framework and Controls: Maintain and enhance the pricing framework, ensuring robust governance, documentation, and control mechanisms are in place.
• Pricing Rule Review and Maintenance: Oversee the regular review and updating of pricing rules to ensure compliance, consistency, and alignment with business objectives.
The Ideal Candidate
You will have an accomplished career in pricing analytics, or actuarial roles within general insurance or a similar regulated environment. A natural leadership and team management style.
You will also need to be able to demonstrate the following experience and qualifications;
• Proficiency in statistical modelling, machine learning, and advanced analytics tools (e.g., Python, R, SAS).
• Have previously used WTW Radar software or similar applications.
• Strong background in data preparation, feature engineering, and algorithm development.
• Demonstrable experience in managing pricing frameworks, controls, and regulatory compliance.
• Proven track record in leading projects and cross-functional teams.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and presentation skills.
• Strong commercial acumen and the ability to translate analytical insights into actionable business recommendations.
• Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach to problem-solving and delivery.
• Meticulous attention to detail, coupled with the ability to see the bigger picture.
• Resilient, adaptable, and open to change in a fast-paced environment.
• Unquestionable integrity, professionalism, and commitment to ethical practice.
Regulatory & Compliance Responsibility
• Ensure full compliance with all applicable regulatory and conduct requirements relating to pricing and general insurance.
• Lead the attestation process for pricing practices, preparing and submitting necessary documentation to regulatory bodies.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory developments and industry best practices, embedding these within pricing processes and controls.
Desirable:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Actuarial Science, Economics, or a related field.
