Overview
Reporting to the UK & Ireland MD, the Sales Director will author and drive the business’s future commercial strategy; responsible for 7 direct reports and a broader team of 56 across sales, product management & procurement. The role will build on relationships with existing customers and sub‑contractor networks while unlocking new opportunities and customers in identified growth sectors.
Responsibilities
* Author and direct the company’s future UK and Ireland commercial strategy in line with the company’s vision and growth ambitions.
* Lead the creation of ambitious sales targets and associated processes/KPIs.
* Provide direction, leadership and mentoring to the commercial team.
* Actively participate in the leadership team to steward the business to future growth.
* Lead senior customer and sub‑contractor dialogue and build relationships with decision makers and influencers within existing and target organisations in the UK and target international markets.
* Strengthen existing customer relationships to enhance retention and maximise long‑term value.
* Identify and unlock new customer and market opportunities to accelerate company growth and build market share in a competitive market landscape.
* Develop strong cross‑functional working relationships with leaders across the UK & Ireland business and across the group.
* Drive a culture of continuous performance improvement across the commercial team to ensure company competitiveness amidst changing market dynamics.
* Inspire the team and the broader organisation as a cultural ambassador and work to develop individual development plans that fuel team retention and growth.
* Shape the commercial team’s skills and attitudes aligned with the company’s future ambitions.
* Act as a company ambassador, internally and externally, consistently living and breathing the culture and values.
Requirements
* Proven and extensive commercial leadership experience, ideally within distribution, industrial products & services into technical, manufacturing or engineering sectors.
* Demonstrated successful growth delivery in competitive market segments.
* Skilled in strategic commercial planning, owning significant budgets and shaping ambitious future growth goals.
* Extensive experience in mentoring and managing a large and successful commercial team.
* Ability to engage and positively influence customers and target organisations at a senior level.
* Commutable to Birmingham HQ and to customers and across other sites as required.
* Astute strategic mindset.
* Demonstrable financial acumen.
