Job Title: School Caretaker
Location: Stanhope Primary School, Ealing
Hours: Split Shift – 7:00am–12:00pm & 5:00pm–7:00pm (Monday–Friday)
Reporting To: School Business Manager / Headteacher
Job Purpose
The School Caretaker is responsible for ensuring that Stanhope Primary School is maintained to a high standard, providing a safe, clean, secure, and welcoming environment for pupils, staff, and visitors. The role includes responsibility for the day-to-day maintenance, security, and operational readiness of the school premises.
Key Responsibilities
Site Security
*
Open and unlock the school premises each morning and ensure buildings are secure at the end of the day.
*
Carry out regular security checks of buildings, grounds, and entrances.
*
Lock and alarm the school buildings at the end of the evening shift.
*
Respond to alarm activations or emergency situations where required.
Maintenance & Repairs
*
Carry out minor repairs and basic maintenance tasks across the school site (e.g., fixing fixtures, furniture, and minor building issues).
*
Ensure school equipment, furniture, and facilities remain in good working order.
Health & Safety
*
Ensure the school site complies with health and safety regulations.
*
Cleaning & Facilities
*
Support the cleaning team and monitor standards of cleanliness across the school.
*
Carry out ad-hoc cleaning duties where necessary.
Grounds & External Areas
*
Maintain the cleanliness and safety of outdoor areas including playgrounds and entrances.
*
Carry out basic grounds maintenance tasks such as litter picking and ensuring pathways are clear.
*
Support with seasonal tasks such as leaf clearance, gritting pathways in winter, and ensuring safe access to the site.
School Operations
*
Assist with setting up and clearing rooms for assemblies, meetings, or events.
*
Assist staff with facilities-related requests where possible.
Person Specification
Skills & Experience
*
Previous experience in a caretaker, facilities, maintenance, or similar role is desirable.
*
Basic DIY and maintenance skills.
*
Good understanding of health and safety practices.
Additional Information
*
The role requires flexibility to support occasional school events where necessary.
*
The post holder will be required to comply with the school’s safeguarding policies and procedures.
*
