We have an exciting leadership opportunity for a National Water Quality Instrumentation Service (NWQIS) Team Leader (calibration and maintenance laboratory). In this role you will provide positive, inclusive leadership, inspiring the team to efficiently deliver environmental outcomes in partnership with commercial customers and stakeholders.
Responsibilities
* Lead a team that provides Water Quality Instrumentation
* Work closely with the technical lead of the laboratory to improve and consolidate technical practices and procedures.
* Promote and reinforce the Environment Agency’s vision and culture
* Develop, support, motivate and empower team members to achieve their potential.
* Build and manage strong relationships internally and externally for both customers and suppliers.
* Contribute to the wider leadership community.
* Ensure performance and health, safety and wellbeing are managed to the highest standards.
Experience & Qualifications
* Previous Team Leader / management experience.
* Excellent people, teamwork and leadership skills.
* Experience motivating people to deliver against corporate targets.
* Good understanding of health & safety risk management.
* Experience working with a range of customers, both internal and external, delivering excellent customer service.
* Ability to prioritise tasks and quickly adapt to changing situations.
* Technical background and experience maintaining high‑quality systems.
* Familiarity with a laboratory/technology facility.
* Basic knowledge of water chemistry and/or water quality.
Team
The NWQIS supports all instrument‑based water quality monitoring activities across the Agency. We deliver a vital service that underpins the Environment Agency’s regulatory responsibilities and are playing a central role in the development of real‑time monitoring under the 2021 Environment Act. The team also supports citizen science and stakeholder partnerships.

Location & Travel
The role will be based at our Caversham Lakes Depot. Travel around the country, planned and unplanned, will be required. An incident role will be required.
