T o lead and manage the airworthiness function within the organisation, ensuring that all aircraft and associated systems comply with applicable regulatory, safety, and performance standards. The role involves orchestrating and integrating the work of multidisciplinary teams – including design, engineering, and maintenance personnel – to deliver airworthiness outcomes that meet defined project and operational requirements in terms of safety, compliance, cost, and schedule. To be the Cranfield Aerospace Solutions Ltd ( CAeS ) lead for the initial airworthiness and certification for new aircraft designs and aircraft modifications and repairs of any level of complexity. On behalf of CAeS, to discharge the responsibilities of Head of Airworthiness, in accordance with UK Part 21J regulations, UK BCAR A8-21 and UK Military Aviation Authority (MAA) Design Approved Organization Scheme (DAOS) regulations, as applicable, with personal Form 4 approval for each design organi s ation approval. To ensure the verification of compliance of new aircraft designs, modifications and repairs with the applicable type-certification basis, the applicable operational suitability data certification basis and the environmental protection requirements is carried out by adequately qualified staff and that the activities that are necessary to demonstrate compliance are completed. To ensure that the continued airworthiness activities appropriate to new aircraft designs, modifications and repairs are properly performed. To ensure that there is adequate and timely interaction with the CAA and MAA (as applicable) on all relevant matters with respect to type certification, changes to type certificates and the approval of repairs. To ensure that CAeS Design Organisation handbooks and/or expositions are prepared and updated as. To provide verification to the CAeS Head of Design that all of the above activities are properly completed. To define, plan and execute initial airworthiness and certification activities for new aircraft designs, aircraft modifications and repairs of any level of complexity. To lead, supervise, check and approve all certification documents, including but not limited to change classifications, certification plans and compliance matrices. To lead the generation of manuals and Operation Suitability Data in support of CAeS designs. To coordinate liaison with the authorities in the event of in-service failures, including occurrence reporting, investigations, Service Bulletins and Airworthiness Directives. To lead the Airworthiness & Certification ( Aw&Cert ) team within Cranfield Aerospace Solutions Ltd ( CAeS ). To lead, develop, and grow the Aw&Cert team (of between 4 and 10 engineers) and the individual engineers within the team. To define, plan and execute Aw&Cert work packages, to meet performance, time and cost requirements. As and when required, to perform the duties of Competent Person for the operation of UK experimental aircraft under E-conditions ( in accordance with UK CAP1220). As and when required, to provide initial airworthiness and certification consultancy services to CAeS clients. To lead the liaison with other airworthiness authorities (e. g. EASA and FAA) for the validation of CAeS STCs. To be a CAeS Compliance Verification Engineer for at least one discipline, as defined by the CAA panel structure. To develop CAeS future capabilities: Expansion of CAeS’ UK CAA Part 21J Design Organization privileges. Initial airworthiness and certification of electric, hybrid and hydrogen fuel cell propulsion systems. SKILLS AND ABILITY EXPECTATIONS Experienced airworthiness engineer, for the initial airworthiness of new aircraft designs and aircraft modifications and repairs, with 15 years of relevant senior experience. Expert in initial airworthiness principles and procedures for new aircraft designs and aircraft modifications and repairs, in accordance with UK CAA or EASA Part 21J. Qualified in all respects to be a UK CAA and MAA SRG1769 / Form 4 holder as the Head of Airworthiness. Qualified in all respects to be a Competent Person for the operation of UK experimental aircraft under E C onditions ( in accordance with UK CAP1220). TYPE OF EXPERIENCE Experienced airworthiness engineer, for the initial airworthiness of new aircraft designs or aircraft modifications and repairs, with 1 0 years of relevant experience. Expert in initial airworthiness principles and procedures for new aircraft designs and aircraft modifications and repairs, in accordance with UK CAA, EASA, or EMAR Part 21 Subpart J. Qualified in all respects to be a UK CAA and MAA SRG1769 / Form 4 holder as the Head of Airworthiness. Experienced in the whole lifecycle of aircraft level certification programmes from initial application to final approval (TC/STC). Experienced in continued airworthiness in accordance with CS 2x.1529. SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE HELD Approved as Compliance Verification Engineer (or be sufficiently qualified, trained and experienced to become so immediately ). Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status (or be sufficiently qualified, trained and experienced to become so). Formal training in project management.
