This role will be aligned to one of the firm's core practice areas (Banking, Corporate, or Dispute Resolution), subject to the prior experience of the successful candidates. The primary responsibilities of an Innovation Manager are to deliver the firm's innovation and change strategy within these practice areas by:
* Becoming a trusted advisor to Associates, Counsels, and Partners on technology solutions and new ways of working available in the firm.
* Ensuring that the appropriate experts are involved in the delivery of legal work.
* Managing the successful delivery of projects or programmes which modernise legal service delivery.
The Team
The IDT team is part of a wider transformation function supporting legal teams across EMEA, collaborating with the Legal Project Management team (LPM), Legal Services team (LST), Digital Solutions team (DS), IT, and Knowledge Management team (KM). The goals are to improve:
1. The lawyer experience (LX).
2. The client experience (CX).
3. Financial performance of the firm.
This is achieved by supporting and delivering innovative solutions using technology and new ways of working.
Key Responsibilities:
* Build and expand relationships with lawyers, understanding their challenges and client delivery issues.
* Collaborate with UK and European teams to involve the right expertise early in opportunities.
* Identify and facilitate involvement of colleagues from other teams like LPM, LST, DS, KM.
* Advise and influence partners and lawyers on technology tools and innovative practices.
* Engage with lawyers and staff in the London office to gather feedback.
* Lead adoption of generative AI tools, guiding legal teams in identifying use cases and tailoring solutions.
* Facilitate workshops on problem-solving, process mapping, and continuous improvement.
* Organise retrospectives and document lessons learned.
Training and Development:
* Develop and deliver demos and training on legal technology tools, including AI.
* Coach legal teams to use technology effectively.
* Guide lawyers in prompt development and AI interaction optimization.
* Train lawyers and staff on new tools and approaches.
* Incorporate relevant tools into training materials and onboarding programs.
Project Delivery and Stakeholder Engagement:
* Update stakeholders on project progress and milestones.
* Maintain strong relationships with partners, clients, and team members.
* Address concerns promptly to maintain trust.
* Manage project scope and timelines.
* Monitor and communicate project metrics and outcomes.
Knowledge Sharing and Industry Awareness:
* Stay informed on legal innovation and technology trends.
* Share insights and best practices from industry events.
* Build relationships within the legal tech ecosystem.
* Evaluate and provide feedback on AI tools in legal tasks.
Minimum Requirements:
* At least 3 years' experience in a global law firm, preferably within a verein structure.
* Experience managing complex projects and stakeholders in a legal context.
* Knowledge of legal technology and AI tools.
* Experience implementing legal tech solutions, including AI deployment.
* Client-facing experience managing relationships and delivering innovative solutions.
* Law qualification in England, Wales, or other common law jurisdiction.
* Fluent in English; additional languages are a plus.
* Familiarity with agile, lean, and client-centered methodologies.
* Excellent communication, advocacy, and presentation skills.
* Technical understanding of AI and its legal applications.
* Proficiency in using AI tools for legal tasks and training teams.
* Understanding of ethical and legal considerations of AI use.
* Ability to drive cultural change and leverage data analytics.
