We are seeking a passionate and patient-focused Pharmacist to join our innovative Hybrid Pharmacy within Downland Practice. You will work in conjunction with our Superintendent Pharmacist, experienced dispensary team and be supported by our full-time Hybrid Pharmacy Manager.
This role offers the opportunity to provide essential and advanced pharmacy services, contribute to service development, and deliver high-quality patient care in a collaborative primary care setting. Independent Prescribers are welcome but not essential.
Job responsibilities
* Deliver high‑quality patient care in line with GPhC Standards for Pharmacy Professionals
* Document, maintain and communicate effective, safe working practices and SOPs
* Ensure safe supply and dispensing of medications via online platforms, private prescriptions, NHS services and remote consultations
* Provide medication counselling, identify potential drug interactions and liaise with prescribers to optimise drug safety and prescribing
* Collaborate with the Hybrid Pharmacy Manager and colleagues to optimise medication ordering and prevent shortages
* Manage and dispense private prescriptions as appropriate
* Perform controlled drug balance checks and dispensing
* Provide over‑the‑counter advice and guidance
* Follow SOPs and complete governance paperwork
* Support the Hybrid Pharmacy Manager in service delivery and workflow optimisation
* Maintain prescription and controlled drug records in line with GPhC and legal requirements
* Liaise with dispensary and finance managers for stock and purchasing
* Report SEAs and near misses; act with learning feedback
* Maintain accurate patient medication records and document advice/action taken
* Respect patient confidentiality, promote health & safety and infection control, support equality, diversity and inclusion
* Maintain own professional development, participate in training and performance reviews, monitor and report quality
Advanced Pharmacy Services
* New Medicine Service (NMS), Discrete Medication Service (DMS), Contraceptive and Paediatric Care Service (CPCS)
* Pharmacy First
* Blood pressure checks, including 24‑hour ambulatory monitoring
* Contraceptive services
* Flu and COVID vaccinations
* Services may be delivered to walk‑in patients or via referral from Downland Practice care coordinators and healthcare professionals
Private Pharmacy Services
* Private prescriptions
* Private flu and COVID vaccinations
* Support development of additional private services
* Work closely with the dispensary team to ensure safe, efficient and cost‑effective prescribing
Qualifications and Experience
* M.Pharm or equivalent
* Qualified and registered pharmacist with the GPhC
* Solid understanding of Pharmacy Laws and Regulations
* Knowledge of NHS pharmacy funding and strategies to achieve targets
* Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload
* Strong communication skills and clinical assessment within Pharmacy Services
* Proficient in using PharmaOutcomes, PQS and monthly reporting
* Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
* Minimum 1 year post‑registration experience
* Subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 – DBS disclosure required
Contract type: Permanent (probationary for first six months). Hours: 30 hours a week. Annual leave: Five weeks and bank holidays, pro rata per year. Perform‑related bonus up to 10 %. Salary: £35,000 to £42,000 per year, depending on experience.
