Job Description
To collect and recover council tax, and housing benefit overpayments owed to the council.
To assist with the collection of Business Rates and BID levy as required.
To respond to customer enquiries by telephone, in writing and face to face.
Responsibilities
You will plan, organise and prioritise own work schedule with minimal supervision and work within procedures and guidelines to agreed standards and targets.
You will investigate and resolve customer enqueries.
You will reply to enquiries by telephone, face-to-face and/or prepare letters and emails which may involve some research.
You will negotiate repayment arrangements with customers for payment of arrears/invoices in accordance with Council procedures.
You will attend Magistrates Court to deal with customers and make suitable payment arrangements.Liaise with other council departments and external agencies where necessary, referring debts to the most suitable recovery option based on debtor circumstances.
Skills Required
Experience of creating and maintaining effective working relationships with others
Have the ability to work effectively without close supervision as well as part of a team
Able to communicate effectively at all levels orally, in writing and face to face
Ability to negotiate with debtors and their representatives to maximise collection
Ability to plan and prioritise workload in accordance with team priorities, service standards and targets
Able to use a PC/Laptop for inputting and retrieving various data
Educational Requirements
A good general education to, including Maths and English to GCSE level or similar to enable the post holder to undertake responsibilities at the level specified
