Consultant Benign Upper GI & General Surgeon

An opportunity has arisen at Salford Royal Hospital for the appointment of a Consultant Benign Upper GI & General Surgeon. The successful candidate will join an established team of 9 Colorectal Surgeons, 6 General Surgeons with mixed Specialty interest & 7 OesophagoGastric Surgeons within the General Surgery department.
Main duties of the job
It is proposed that the appointees will provide 10 PAs per week (which will include outpatient clinics, operating theatre lists, and administration). The job plan will be a flexible job plan.
All Consultants will be allocated 1 core SPA per week for professional development (CPD), Job Planning, Appraisal, Mandatory Training, attendance at regular team meetings which will have a clinical governance aspect and participating in Audit.
Additional SPA time will be made available to consultants on the basis of evidenced need. Such allocation will be agreed and subsequently reviewed.
The appointee will be expected to participate fully in the provision of District General Hospital services to the residents of Salford.
The post-holders will be expected to take a lead role in ensuring delivery of a quality service. This will include the following:

You will also be involved in a 1 in 19 emergency oncall rota, this will entail weekends and nights.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Primary medical qualification (MBBS or equivalent).
* Full GMC registration with licence to practise.
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for General Surgery via CCT, CESR or within 6 months of interview.
* Completion of higher surgical training in General Surgery with appropriate exposure to Benign Upper GI and Emergency General Surgery.
* Higher degree (MD, PhD or equivalent).
* Post-CCT fellowship in benign upper GI or related subspecialty.
* Completion of recognised advanced laparoscopic training.
* Evidence of Accredited Clinical & Educational Supervision of Medical Learners
Clinical Experience
* Demonstrable clinical experience and competence in benign upper gastrointestinal surgery and emergency general surgery.
* Evidence of independent operative practice appropriate for consultant appointment.
* Experience participating in an Emergency General Surgery rota
* Experience in complex benign upper GI surgery including hiatal or revisional procedures
* Experience in advanced laparoscopic biliary surgery or management of common bile duct stones.
* JAG accreditation in diagnostic or therapeutic endoscopy.
Governance, Audit & Quality Improvement
* Experience of clinical audit and quality improvement activity.
* Understanding of clinical governance, patient safety and risk management.
* Evidence of leading service improvement initiatives.
Teaching & Training
* Commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training.
* Experience teaching medical students, trainees, or other healthcare professionals.
* Experience as an educational or clinical supervisor.
* Formal training in medical education.
Research & Academic Activity
* Demonstrates engagement with continuing professional development and keeping up to date with advances in surgical practice.
* Awareness of the ethical, legal and regulatory frameworks governing clinical practice and research.
* Participation in collaborative research or clinical trials.
* Evidence of research activity, peer-reviewed publications, or presentations at regional or national meetings.
Leadership & Management
* Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and contribute to service delivery and development.
* Understanding of NHS structures, service delivery, and performance targets.
* Evidence of leadership roles within clinical teams or service development projects.
* Management or leadership training.
