Head of Maths – Enfield – September 2026
An ambitious, community-driven secondary school in Enfield is seeking an experienced and resilient Head of Maths to lead their Mathematics department from September 2026. This is a permanent Head of Maths role within a school rated Good by Ofsted, where the relationships you build with pupils will be the most rewarding of your career, and where great teaching genuinely changes lives.
About the School
This Enfield secondary school serves a diverse, urban community and welcomes pupils who arrive with complex backgrounds and significant barriers to learning. Behaviour can be challenging, but the school has clear, well‑embedded systems in place and a senior leadership team that backs its staff. Once you earn the trust of these pupils, the relationships are extraordinarily meaningful.
What the School Offers
* A TLR‑supported Head of Maths post with genuine departmental autonomy and visible SLT backing
* Clear and consistently enforced behaviour systems, with strong pastoral support structures behind every classroom teacher
* A school that is honest about its challenges and equally proud of what its staff achieve within them
* Structured CPD with access to Maths Hub networks and clear pathways into senior leadership
* The kind of pupil relationships that remind you exactly why you went into teaching in the first place
The Role
As Head of Maths, you will lead curriculum planning, assessment strategy and staff development across the full Mathematics department. You will model outstanding classroom practice, drive GCSE outcomes, line‑manage colleagues and contribute actively to whole‑school improvement as part of the middle leadership team. Building genuine, trusted relationships with pupils who may initially test boundaries will be central to your success as Head of Maths in this school – and when those relationships land, they will stay with you.
What the School is Looking For
* Hold British QTS awarded through a UK‑accredited teacher training programme
* Graduated with a 2:1 or above in Mathematics or a closely related discipline from a reputable UK university, ideally Russell Group
* Demonstrate a strong and successful track record of secondary Maths teaching within UK schools, with clear evidence of strong pupil outcomes
* Have proven middle leadership experience including curriculum development, staff management and driving departmental improvement
* Be resilient, consistent and emotionally intelligent – with the interpersonal skills to connect with pupils who do not always make it easy
* Be legally entitled to work in the UK – visa sponsorship is not available
Candidates without proven UK secondary Maths teaching experience and demonstrable leadership responsibility will not be considered.
