Overview
A great opportunity has arisen within a dynamic and expanding group of companies based in Whitstable, Kent. CA Drillers Ltd, CA Fire Protection Ltd, and CA Telecom UK Ltd currently employ over 120 staff and are continuing to grow.
We are seeking an experienced, highly organised, and capable Workshop Fitter/ Test & Run Operative to join our dedicated team – to work on heavy plant and tools. This role is essential to ensuring the safe and efficient operation of plant/ tools and equipment across the business. Working closely with our Workshop Manager, you'll be directly involved in the repair, servicing, and testing of a wide variety of tools and machinery, as well as supporting the overall productivity of our workshop operations.
The successful candidate will take pride in their work, be a proactive problem-solver, and have a positive, friendly, and can-do attitude. You may also be called upon to share your expertise with junior team members and apprentices.
Roles & Responsibilities
* Work under the guidance of the Workshop Manager while also taking initiative and working independently when required.
* Diagnose faults and carry out repairs on a wide range of plant and equipment, including petrol saws and 110v/ 415v heavy plant and hand tools, including large generators and floor saws to name a few.
* Inspect mechanical and electrical components and remedy faults as necessary.
* Perform function testing on repaired and serviced equipment to ensure safety and operability.
* Provide on-site support if machines breakdown.
* Set up and commission all new plant and equipment as required.
* Accurately maintain daily service records, inspection sheets, and associated documentation.
* Provide support and guidance to other workshop staff and apprentices where required.
* Undertake other workshop-related tasks as needed to support team operations.
* Ensure all tools and equipment meet the required health and safety standards before returning to circulation.
* Carry out routine PAT testing as part of equipment sign-off procedures.
* Assist in the organisation and layout of the workshop to promote efficient working practices.
* Liaise with site operatives and managers to clarify repair or servicing requirements when necessary.
* Help monitor stock levels of parts and consumables and inform management when reordering is required.
Requirements
* Relevant mechanical or fitter qualification – NVQ or equivalent (preferred).
* Current PAT Testing Certificate (essential).
* Experience in BROKK & HUSQVARNA Demolition Hammers or at least knowledge of excavators / hydraulics.
* Strong experience in the maintenance and repair of electrically powered tools, battery powered, pneumatic systems, petrol tools, diesel plant and hydraulic equipment.
* Previous experience working with Hilti equipment (preferred).
* Sound understanding of Health, Safety, and Environmental best practices.
* Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Willing to be trained on specific kit, such as Pentruder, Hilti, Brokk, Husqvarna and Tyrolit and undertake further training when required.
