Job Title: Principal Planning Policy Officer Location: Guildhall 1, High Street, Kingston upon Thames, KT1 1EU Contract Duration: 2 June 2025 to 31 May 2026 Working Hours: 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:00 Pay Rate: Up to 50 pounds per hour (umbrella), depending on experience IR35 Status: Inside IR35 Closing Date: Thursday 22 May 2025 at 12:00 noon About the Role: The Royal Borough of Kingston is seeking an experienced and driven Principal Planning Policy Officer to join their Planning team. This is a key role responsible for leading a range of strategic planning policy initiatives that will help shape the borough's future development. Key Responsibilities: Lead and contribute to the preparation, review, and implementation of the borough's Local Plan and associated planning policy documents Provide professional advice on complex planning policy matters Undertake evidence-based research, data analysis, and reporting Manage public consultations and engage with key stakeholders Represent the council at hearings, meetings, and external forums Support and guide junior planning staff Requirements: Significant experience in planning policy, ideally in a local authority environment Strong understanding of UK planning legislation, national guidance, and local plan-making processes Excellent communication and report-writing skills Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines Must have the right to work in the UK and provide documentation including photo ID, right to work proof, and declarations Additional Information: This is an agency worker role The umbrella pay rate is up to 50 pounds per hour depending on experience The role falls inside IR35 Only the top 15 candidates submitted by the deadline will be shortlisted for review How to Apply: To apply, please send your CV and supporting documents by 12:00 noon on Thursday 22 May 2025.
