Job summary
Orchard Houses Surgery has an opportunity for a receptionist to join our team on a part-time basis for hours per week with the hours below:
1. Monday 12pm -
2. Tuesday 2pm -
3. Wednesday 8am - 2pm
4. Friday 2pm -
We are looking for a receptionist to help make a positive impact on our local community. Receptionists help patients to access the right services, assist with keeping health records accurate and up-to-date and ensure that appointment bookings are well-managed. We would welcome applications from organised, adaptable, and friendly individuals, who are keen to help us provide high levels of customer service.
Main duties of the job
5. Greeting and directing all patients.
6. Making appointments and giving out appointment cards, where required
7. Accepting, issuing and handing out prescriptions, letters, completed forms, specimen bottles, etc.
8. Dealing with requests for information, and managing problems and complaints.
9. Advising patients of practice procedures.
10. Registering new patients.
11. Answer the telephone promptly.
Some flexibility is required as you will sometimes need to work additional/alternative hours to cover for colleagues.
About us
We are a 6-partner PMS practice with approx. 11,400 patients and employ 3 further salaried doctors.
The practice is one of three based in Newmarket that provides a high level of care to our patients in Newmarket and surrounding villages.

13. Ideally previous medical / healthcare receptionist experience.
14. You will have excellent communication skills with a clear and polite telephone manner.
15. You will work in a polite, confidential and discreet manner, respecting patients at all times.
16. You will have experience of working with the general public, being sensitive and empathic in distressing situations.
17. You will be confident to work as part of a team and be able to think on your feet independently.
18. Strong IT and administration skills.
