The Role:
As a Shock Test Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in delivering world‑class shock test programmes that ensure critical defence and security systems can withstand the most demanding operational environments.
Day‑to‑day, you’ll make a meaningful difference by expertly planning, executing and analysing shock trials, providing customers with rigorous, trusted evidence that directly informs design improvements, de‑risks programmes and strengthens national capability.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Liaising with customers to fully understand test requirements, scope and deliverables
* Planning and managing the technical delivery of shock test programmes to time, cost and quality
* Executing complex shock trials and ensuring all testing is carried out safely, accurately and in line with facility procedures
* Analysing and interpreting shock data to produce high‑quality technical insights and customer‑ready reports
* Maintaining the Shock Facility and associated equipment, ensuring capability, resilience and compliance with national standards
* Mentoring and supporting colleagues, sharing expertise in shock experimentation and contributing to the development of less experienced team members
Essential experience of the Shock Test Engineer:
* Experience in planning and conducting equipment test activity, with shock testing highly desirable
* Experience applying test and experimentation procedures, ensuring work is delivered safely and accurately
* Experience in analysing and interpreting complex data sets to produce meaningful technical insights
* Experience working within technical facilities or laboratory environments, following rigorous procedures and maintaining high standards of housekeeping
* Experience contributing to continuous improvement of test methods, processes or facility capabilities
* Experience in supporting or mentoring colleagues, particularly during the preparation and delivery of technical test programmes
Essential qualifications for the Shock Test Engineer:
* Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline (or equivalent level gained through substantial practical experience)

This role is 37 hours per week based at our South Arm, Rosyth Dock Yard site.
