This exciting post at Neath Port Talbot Hospital comes with a range of key responsibilities and duties with the main focus being on the education and training or pharmacy technicians, pre-registration trainee pharmacy technicians, trainee pharmacists and pharmacy assistants.

As a vital member of the pharmacy team, your role ensures patient safety, high-quality pharmaceutical services, and effective medicines management within NPT Hospital.

The role requires independent working, strong leadership, alongside excellent communication and problem-solving skills. A positive and adaptable attitude is essential, promoting respect for others' views and encouraging a friendly, helpful disposition. You will engage with staff at all levels, both internally and externally to the organisation, and handle complex and sensitive information with professionalism and care.

You need to be qualified or working towards Introduction to Healthcare Education and Training level 4, or equivalent qualification recognised by HEIW for the education and training role.

Main duties of the job

You would tutor, mentor and coach in healthcare education. Promote professional behaviour in learning. Plan learning activities to achieve specified learning outcomes. Utilise a variety of different methods of assessment and give effective feedback that affirms achievement and identifies further needs for learners’ progression and development.

You would be responsible for full line management of staff including PADRs, recruitment and training within your scope and area of responsibility.

Part of your role would be to review and update training programmes in light of professional and departmental need.

You would be expected to deputise for other Senior Pharmacy Technicians in their absence.

Continuous professional development, teamwork, and the ability to handle challenging situations will be instrumental in maintaining the highest standards of pharmaceutical care.

Overall, your role as a Senior Pharmacy Technician will be critical in ensuring patient safety, providing high-quality pharmaceutical services, and supporting the smooth functioning of the pharmacy department within NPT Hospital.

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential criteria

1. Knowledge of pharmaceutical technical procedures for specialist area to degree or equivalent level acquired though training, NVQ3, BTEC in pharmaceutical science or equivalent in pharmaceutical science plus additional knowledge for checking dispensed prescriptions & supervising a technical area.

3. Significant experience of working in a hospital pharmacy department or equivalent.
4. Ability to supervise other staff.
5. Ability to manage the day-to-day provision of pharmacy service within area.
6. Ability to know when to refer to Pharmacist.

7. Proven track record of competence.

8. Ability to work independently with full range of local pharmacy codes and procedures.
9. Good verbal/written communication skills.
10. Able to cover other specialist area(s) in deputising role.
11. Good communicator, motivated, able to work as part of a team.
