The Role: The Finance Officer will support the Finance Manager in the effective day to day running of the finance function. The role covers a broad range of transactional finance responsibilities including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Credit Control, cashflow support, payroll reconciliation, and assistance with month end processes, alongside general ad‑hoc finance duties. A hands-on role that requires you to: Accounts Payable Assist with processing supplier invoices accurately and in a timely manner Ensure invoices are correctly coded and authorised Carry out supplier statement reconciliations Manage and resolve supplier queries Prepare and process supplier payment runs Accounts Receivable & Credit Control Raise and issue sales invoices accurately and on a timely basis Allocate customer receipts and investigate discrepancies Monitor debtor balances and actively manage credit control activities Chase overdue debt in line with company credit control policies Prepare and post journals (JNLs) for deferred income Prepare and post accrued income journals and maintain supporting schedules Ensure deferred and accrued income balances are accurately reconciled and reviewed Cashflow & Banking Assist with daily and weekly cashflow monitoring and reporting Reconcile & post daily cashing up sheets. Post and reconcile bank transactions Post and reconcile credit card transactions Support cashflow forecasting with accurate and timely transactional data Posting bank charges accurately in a timely manner Month‑End Support Assist the Finance Manager with month end close activities Prepare balance sheet reconciliations (e.g. bank, AP, AR, Credit Control) Support with journals, accruals and prepayments Ensure all transactional areas are fully reconciled for reporting General & Ad‑Hoc Duties Maintain accurate financial records and filing Respond to internal and external finance queries Support audit requests and provide required documentation Assist with continuous improvement of finance processes Undertake other ad‑hoc finance tasks as required Assist with payroll reconciliations & posting journal into the accounting system. Liaise with People & Culture where required Your Experience: Previous experience in a finance officer role Strong Knowledge of Accounts Payable, Accounts receivable, Credit Control & Month End duties. Ability to manage high risk accounts and prioritise workloads. Technical: Finance systems, reporting tools, legal recovery processes. Functional: Negotiation, prioritisation, compliance awareness. Experience preparing and posting journals, including deferred and accrued income Experience with reconciliations, including credit card and bank accounts Good Excel skills and experience using accounting systems Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritise workload Strong knowledge on VAT. Desirable Experience: Experience supporting month‑end close Payroll or payroll reconciliation experience Studying or keen to study AAT / ACCA / CIMA Experience working in a busy finance function Qualifications: AAT Level 3/4 or QBE with Basic accounting knowledge and Strong Credit Control and debt recovery experience. GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English – strong numeracy and communication skills. Training or certification in negotiation, mediation, or conflict resolution (desirable). Skills and competencies : Attention to Detail and accuracy. Clear & professional verbal and written communication skills. Time Management & Organisation. Customer Service Orientation and being able to balance firm credit control with maintaining positive customer relationships. Compliance & Integrity Problem-Solving & Analytical Skills – for resolving disputes and identifying recovery strategies. Resilience & Professionalism – important for handling challenging conversations.
