About the role
East Lothian Council is one of Scotland's fastest growing local authorities, delivering essential services across a diverse and geographically varied area. Our IT Infrastructure & Security team supports over 4,000 staff and thousands of learners across more than 100 sites, from council offices and schools to remote community locations.
We’re looking for an IT Analyst to join our team, based at our headquarters in Haddington.
The Infrastructure & Security team designs, operates, and secures the Council’s network and server estate end to end. Our environment spans enterprise networking, Microsoft server and cloud platforms, and a growing security capability. The scale and visibility of our work make it both challenging and genuinely rewarding.
Your primary focus will be supporting, maintaining, and developing the Council’s voice and data wide area networks. Over time, there is real scope to broaden into other areas of infrastructure and security, aligned to your interests and development.
This is not a passive support role. You’ll contribute to how the network evolves, support digital transformation initiatives, and help ensure our infrastructure remains secure, resilient, and fit for the future.
What you’ll be doing
* Supporting and developing enterprise network, server, storage, and cloud services
* Contributing to the evaluation and rollout of new technologies
* Providing Level 1‑2 technical support with a customer‑focused approach
* Working with colleagues across IT and the wider organisation on infrastructure and security projects
* Offering technical input to support council‑wide digital transformation
What we’re looking for
You’ll have experience in enterprise IT infrastructure, ideally with a network or Microsoft background, along with strong analytical skills and attention to detail. You take ownership, communicate clearly, and approach problems methodically.
Relevant certifications (CompTIA, Microsoft, or networking qualifications) are desirable but not essential. We’ll support your development where it matters.
What we offer
* Flexible working, including hybrid options
* A supportive and collaborative team
* Genuine opportunities for learning and career progression
* Work that makes a real difference to our communities
Job Requirements
* Relevant qualifications: HNC and/or equivalent knowledge, skills and competencies gained through relevant experience.
* Driving licence: a full current driving licence is desirable.
* Level 1 Disclosure Clearance: required prior to commencement. If you have spent more than 3 months working or living out of the UK in the last 5 years, you will also need to present a copy of an overseas criminal record check.
