Job summary
This role is responsible for providing a uniformed specialist service. Ensuring that patients, visitors and staff are given advice and provided with a safe and secure environment in line with legislation and particularly in emergency situations. This will include communication with emergency services. The post holders will protect people and property, detecting and preventing crime including operating and controlling access and key control systems. Fundamental to the role will be operating the CCTV system pursuant with public safety, the prevention of disorder and crime and the operational need of the Trust. Operation must be in accordance with the principles of the Data Protection Act 1998, the Human Rights Act 1998, the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Acts 2016, other relevant legislation and the Trust's policies and procedures. This role will require a degree of liaison with emergency services. The security department works across all Three NUH campus sites and comprises of a team leader and several security officers and CCTV operators on each site.
The duties will be shift working and cover both 12 hr days and nights including weekend and bank holiday. These shifts are currently on a 4 on 5 off rota which provides excellent work life balance and also the opportunity for overtime if available. The security department work closely as a team and rely on each other so its important to be a team player and have good interpersonal skills when dealing with customers.
Responsibilities
* Accurately record and log all incidents reported to the Control Room within the Daily Occurrence Book and take appropriate action to ensure incidents are dealt with in a timely and efficient manner.
* Monitor the movement of vehicular traffic and vehicle parking (both on-street and within the car parks) and report / respond to identified incidents by despatching resources to the incident and/or deal with the incident in an appropriate manner.
* Control, operate and monitor all systems within the Control Room environment including CCTV systems, recording media, access systems, alarm systems, telephone and messaging systems, computer systems, fault logging systems.
* Ensure the operation of CCTV and related systems in accordance with the Trust CCTV Policy, data protection and privacy requirements.
* Log all information for audit/evidence purposes and ensure adherence to relevant policies and legislation.
* Monitor movement of cash collections on site via CCTV and assist with related security tasks.
* Restrict access to the site and regulate movement of traffic and pedestrians as required.
* Report obstructions of corridors or fire escapes and allocate resources as needed.
* During serious incidents, follow directions from the Security Manager or Major Incident Plan and use CCTV control room systems as appropriate.
* Liaise with Police, Fire Brigade and other emergency services; assist in the search of buildings and other matters involving preservation of life and prevention of danger.
* Maintain constant vigilance to detect hazards and divert people where necessary until responders arrive.
* Ensure cleanliness and presentation of the site and display of ID badges at all times.
* Support the Security Management Team in responding to incidents using CCTV/Control Room systems; provide assistance, support and courteous advice to callers.
* Manage security staff radio and communications equipment; report faults to the Helpdesk and escalate as appropriate.
* Be smartly dressed in Trust-approved uniform and maintain the cleanliness of the work base.
Working conditions
Office-based environment with a significant amount of concentration required for monitoring activity across the campus. Occasional exposure to aggressive behaviour and rare exposure to viewing distressing incidents.

Training & Qualifications
* Public Space Surveillance (CCTV) Licence.
* NVQ Level 2 or similar in Maths, English and an ICT related subject.
* Understanding of CCTV related legislation (code of practice, DPA 1998, etc.).
Experience
* Essential: Experience of working in CCTV Operations for a minimum of 2 years.
* Essential: Experience of working with the public in a security related role for a minimum of 2 years.
* Desirable: Experience of working within a healthcare environment.
* Desirable: Experience in liaising with uniformed services (fire, police) and responding to alarm activations.
